Porsche 918 Spyder Runs on HTML5
The dash and infotainment system that is!

Porsche is yet again showing the automotive world that they are on the forefront of today's technology. As if the incredibly sophisticated hybrid systems recently revealed weren't enough for you techno-geeks like us, this should make you all give a slow clap in the direction of Stuttgart.

The soon to be released 918 Spyder's infotainment system and dashboard interface uses HTML5, which is the same code that the modern Internet runs on.

The report came originally from the German publication AutoBild. They mention that Porsche's rationale for the system was the ease of programming and smartphone integration.

I'm not a techno-geek. What does this mean for us now and in the future for other Porsche cars?

New contents and features for the cars Infotainment System.

It can support OpenGL, which is important for the 2D/3D rendering. That means the display quality in the cars will soon match the quality of an iPad.

I just realized the 918 ditched the conventional five gauge cluster. RIP old friend.
