2014 GT3 Road & Track First Drive Review
#13
I agree that using an actual clutch pedal and rowing gears ADDS to the experience of driving a sports car. And I agree with NIZER's points, very well said.
GT2 and GT3RS are the most exciting amazing driving experiences I have ever had, especially in comparison to driving a TTS. But what makes a TTS boring to me is not the PDK but the feel of the steering, AWD, and loss of communication from the whole car (chasis, steering wheel, etc). In comparison I have tracked a 458, SCUD and MP and they were very thrilling and I would not ever be bored with any of them and yet they do not have a true manual tran. So for me its more about the feel of the car and how it communicates the road back to me and the feel of control it gives me.
Yes there should definitely be a manual option for us to choose, but which would I choose......would have to drive them back to back.

Figures. After the GTR I will never go back to DSG. I even test drove an F10 M5 with DSG and immediately ordered the 6 speed. My 3RS, and my old Ducati 998, spew out smoke, noise and come to life when I fire up them up. Managing the clutch, shifter and throttle on either was an experience that just brings a smile to my face and a slight dab of fear Pure race machines for the road. Truly the end of an era.

Well..have you driven the PdK already? I also drove the new boxster-s two weeks ago..while the chassis is way better than a GT2 or GT3...PDK is boring after 10 min and the engine was the biggest disappointment..not enough power..

Hi GT Cole,
"hate" is the wrong word..I also felt that PdK is boring after some time..no doubt its more practical and faster.
You cant force someone who likes blondes to accept brunettes !..so far the GT3 was for both..now one is gone...in fact one could even argue that the old customer has no choice at all anymore...before they had manual...now this option is gone...

Hate was a generic term. I'm just curious if we will go to the dark side or not. Right now we don't embrace the PDK.
Cup cars from 2006 to 2012 have sequential trannies. I'm not sure what full sequential means in relation to sequential.

Cup car sequential is built off the 6-speed manual transmission and retains a clutch pedal. It converts the H-pattern shifter sitting on top of the transmission to sequential and has a computerized timing interupt for upshifts but it's still very much a manual transmisson.
PDK is completely different - twin clutches, dual parallel gear shafts, no clutch pedal, full automatic actuation.
