TPC Racing: Testing for 2013 Season Begins!
At TPC Racing, there is no off season. Over the last couple of weeks, we have been acquiring new cars to run for the season and making new agreements with new sponsors. On Saturday, we acquired a 2009 GT3 Cup for 2013 Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge driver, David Williams. On Monday morning, all fluids were changed and the car was loaded up in the hauler and off to VIR for two days of testing. When arriving to the track Monday night, we unloaded the cars and setup to prepare for Tuesday morning.
Tuesday consisted of getting David up to speed on how the 997 GT3 Cup works. The gearbox is different than most cars that any driver is used to driving, so we focused on shifting and getting used to how the car felt. We reviewed data and video after each time out on track to learn where more speed can be gained. Mike Levitas got in the car to record some data laps and also felt out the car to see how it handled. We made a few changes and sent David back out to finish off the day.
After a very successful day Tuesday and David feeling more comfortable with the car, we were looking forward to Wednesday. We were only on track for half of the day, so there was a lot to accomplish but we were not in a rush. After reviewing more data and comparing his data to Michael's, David was ready to go back out. Wednesday was focused on building more speed and learning how to drive the car harder now that the shifting was down. David did an amazing job and dropped his time by 10 seconds since arriving at the track to learn how to drive his car.
This car will be the TPC Racing / Merkle Porsche GT3 Cup that will be run in the Gold class in the Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Series along side of team owner / driver Michael Levitas in his 36 TPC Racing Porsche GT3 Cup.
Stay tuned for more announcements about sponsorship and testing as we further prepare for the 2013 season!
