Shark Werks Exhaust for the 997 GT2RS and GT2 Released (and video)

Hey folks I just wanted to show you our new exhaust set up for the 997 GT2RS and 997 GT2. As with our other SharkWerks exhausts, this one retains the factory cats, does not cause and CELs and is hence 50 state legal. At freeway speeds and in 6th gear you won't have to worry about excessive resonance either. Also our system does not add any weight vs factory. With a little straighter flow and less back pressure we think it sounds pretty neat too...

We've got another dealership installing one on a 997GT2 next week but for now this lovely white 2011 997 GT2RS came in earlier for some surgery. This one is going to see both track and street duty so a few choice Shark Werks modifications are going to help it along nicely. For such a potent raw car it sure could sound a little more menacing and hence a Shark Werks GT2/GT2RS exhaust was installed. Although the stock suspension harbors some of Porsche's finest components to date, the GT2RS still has neoprene bushes on the dog bone ends of its rear links as well as the annoying excentric bolt on the lower arm that changes the toe angle under hard cornering. The fix for that is simple and the same as on any modern 911 with our rear links. For more power (as if it needed it!) we also fine tuned the car for 91 octane with the EVOMSit software.

The carbon hood, wider front wheel arches and carbon side vents can mean only one thing- the GT2RS is here:

Number 267 to be precise:

Yes it's got the red motif going on inside too:

Off comes the bumper cover:

Very nicely made but extremely quiet stock exhaust (by Akrapovic). The pathway isn't absolutely ideal either for the lowest possible back pressure for a turbo car with an internal merge (you can see the hot spot in the center as a result).

Here's the factory Ti muffler on the scales:

Although the SharkWerks exhaust is made from stainless the entire unit still doesn't add any weight vs factory (in fact a pound lighter for those counting):

And ours installed with straight-through mandrel bent pipes minus any muffler or center/join restriction. We also re-use the factory cats to remain CEL free and California emissions compliant:

On go the factory tips:

On goes the bumper and you'd never know (except for the more gnarly sound):

This is the sound of the stock vs Shark Werks enhanced:

Now it's out with the Shark Werks flashing station which is hooked up to the OBDII port:

The EVOMSit performance software is loaded on and not only is there additional power but we've enabled left-foot braking (no more throttle body cut out) and given the throttle more edge to match up more with the factory single mass flywheel:

While in the rear you can see the very same 2001 headers as found on a 996TT. With increased boost we also installed the EVOMS BRV kit and removed the factory rubber diaphragm design in favor of a billet piston set up:

Stock vs EVOMS:

Installed:

Here we have the business end of the rear. The factory rear links and ends with their softer neoprene ends are designed to have some play/flex/give and the same parts as on most 996 and 997 Carreras.

Off with those factory rear links:

Now with the rear dog bones installed:

There is one difference with the factory GT2RS (and 4.0 RS) rear lower link. The ends are indeed solid although the excentric bolt is still there to turn its ugly bolt head when you don't want it. So on with the RSS Bump steer kit and lock out plates:

She's good to go... feels a stronger and smoother than the factory tune on 91 (vs the 93 it was intended for). Next up will be a another set of wheels dedicated for the track:

Who are ya?

Hi GTCole, since we just finished this up we haven't had a chance to dyno the car yet. We will have dynos incoming from EVOMS soon, since we're dealing with a turbo car and reduced back pressure there should be some gains. The customer has already reported the turbo response / lag has been decreased, he believes he feels some noticeable power gain from the exhaust but his goal was really to change the character of the car by its sound.

I think the mic on our little Flip cam was a bit blown out. The 2-step rev limiter (launch control) would definitely sound a bit raspy like a rally car right before it launches I'll try to shoot better video next time the car is in or we install on a standard 997 GT2. We were limited by time this week.

Thanks Jon! Videos never do them justice but I thought it sounded good in person!
