This rumor may not be as crazy as it sounds. (Not saying it is true, but it is not beyond the realm of possibility as some here decry)

The GT3 RS is homologation car for the RSR- the very piece de resistance of the Porsche Motorsport GT program. (And from which Porsche makes a nice profit)

Some pundits are suggesting that the current and future GTE rules tend to benefit larger capacity engines, and in fact the RSR was the car with the smallest capacity engine of all its main rivals both within the 2011 ALMS and the old LMS series. In fact it seems that the BoP (Balance of Performance) seems to favor 8 cylinder larger capacity engine vehicles...
The BoP regulations applied by the VLN was said to be behind the decision for Manthey to pull his factory backed entry from the VLN and the next 24 H of the Nurburgring. They apparently felt that neither the RSR nor the R would be competitive enough against the R8’s, BMWs’ and Ferrari’s if the future BoP regulations are applied.

Now Porsche have a 2012 RSR that is improved, but it remains basically the same in the engine department. We will see how well it does against the competition during this season.

The rumored 8 cylinder 960/1 would serve as an ideal tool for a future homologation vehicle for the top of the range Porsche Morotsport GT program making a GT3 RS redundant for this particular purpose.

It is however important to note that the RS also serves as the base model for the CUP program (the very backbone of the GT Motorsport program – the real money maker) , but there is no reason why a “normal” 991 GT3 could not take over that role in the future.

A possible picture of the future Porsche Motorsport GT program could look like this.
• 960/1 = homologation model for future 960/1 RSR (competitor of the 458 Italia) in ACO sanctioned racing. (possibly VLN as well)
• 991 GT3= Basis for CUP and other GT racing series.

Again; I am not saying that this is the case, but it is a possible scenario.
I smell a possible Porsche spy....

Carrera has just quoted a few selected opinios - but the overall picture was definately positive for the 997 - your post will change nothing to that. I bet you, if you search for it, you will even find quotes on the www that the Carrera GT is an ugly car, that is useless etc..so what - it doesnt change the overall praise for the car.

What is however unacceptable is your language, but anyboby who checks your words here can probably guess that you just know Porsche from your playstations ..

So - I will not "shut up" because of you - nonetheless - I think I wont post here in this thread here anymore as there is too much speculation...we will see what happens in 2 years..

Enjoy your playstations..kid..

The point I was trying to make wasn't that everybody hates the 997.

I was trying to point out that initially a lot of people loved the 997, and a lot hated everything about it. That is the EXACT situation we now have with the 991, I'm just trying to point that out.

Check this out, and progress forward through the pages (where I found all the quotes).

And I'm not trying to single you out, I and many others are guilty of this. I don't really like the whole idea of the 991 right now, but I guarantee I will love it very soon after I get over all the things I don't like. Just watch this.

And I have a few questions for you, what is wrong with my "language". There is nothing explicit, and if you read back, I did not in any way come at you. As a matter of fact I didn't even express any sort of opinion to you at all. I told you like it was. There was a lot of complaining about the 997 when it came out. That is a fact. Not an attack at you, and no foul tone intended (until maybe now).

And btw, I don't have a playstation, I have an xbox.

I believe he was referring to ECB's comments.

There is only one way to settle this....Carrera, go find every quote ever posted on the internet about the 997 and tell us how many were positive, how many were negative, and how many were neutral.

Hi Carrera,

Thank you for your explanations. With my last post I was referring to ECB who told me to "shut up" - youre not guilty of anything.

I was just a bit shocked about his primitive words..

PS: I like the Carrera GT too..but I just own two "mini" GTs...997 GT2 and 997 GT3..no the real one..

take care & all the best,
