From the perspective of the automobile, 2011 could hardly have been a more interesting year. Several spectacular vehicles have been vying for our attention, so when it came to the tallying up the nominees for Teamspeed.com's Car of the Year, we've had a harder job than ever. Sending our contributors across the length and breadth of the globe, we made sure that the cream of the crop had been represented.

Cars like the physics-bending McLaren MP4-12C, the ridiculously quick Lamborghini Aventador, the intoxicating Ferrari 458 Spider and the brutal Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Coupé Black Series headed a field of extremely worthy contenders. But it was your vote which would ultimately decide the winner. Beating off the above cars is no mean feat, so for Teamspeed's community to have rallied to decide one car by a distinct majority means this car is truly worthy.

So, the winner is....(drum roll, please)...

The Porsche 911 GT3 RS 4.0

Yes, the GT3 RS 4.0 is much more than a sum of its go-fast parts. It's possibly the most complete driver's car ever to roll down a production line. It may be the last of the 997 range, but oh, what a climax. This is evident by the amount of Teamspeed members who have forked over their hard-earned cash to get hold of one. And who can blame them? But it's not just the owners who had a share in crowning the GT3 RS 4.0 Teamspeed 2012 Car of the Year. Almost 40 percent of the entire Teamspeed community ranked the Porsche as their number one car, and it's a view shared by plenty of professional reviewers as well:

Porsche wins again for the second year in a row.

 

The McLaren MP4-12C finished a good strong second, beating out the Lamborghini Aventador which is very impressive!

 

Such an epic car. Reminds me of the cool editions they used to do back in the day (ie 964 turbo s).

I really love the 4.0.......perhaps even more than the 2RS that i thought was my fav 997 variant up until....now!

 

That's what I was thinking. Theres at least 5 on the team.
