Second Toyota TS030 Hybrid will be driven by Anthony Davidson ( ex LMP1 Peugeot), Sebastien Buémi (F1) and Hiroaki Ishuira. Toyota is obviously getting serious!

They need to be getting very serious if they want to go head to head with Audi's 4 car entry!

In looking at the Toyota's cockpit, I am puzzled...How does the driver manage dealing with those HUGE pillars just aft of the windshield? In two pictures, he is clearly seen to have his head even with the well-aft side windows. Very very odd. Anybody got a solution?

I'm not quite sure, but I guess the same can be said about the Audis as well. On any on board videos all you can see is almost a direct angle straight ahead. All the rest of the view are blocked by the huge front wheel housings.

Regulations for 2014 officially released! Here are some highlights:
  • 30% reduction of emissions
  • Optional Hybrid systems will be 4 times more powerful
  • Fuel: Diesel, petrol, or any sort of bio fuel (possibility of Hydrogen, or 100% electric)
  • Very light engine restrictions
  • Fuel tanks: Diesel: 53.3l (2011: 60l) Petrol: 64.4l (2011: 75l)
  • Weight: 850kg Hybrids, 830kg non Hybrids
  • Drivers will sit higher, and farther forward in cars, and front wing height will be reduced.
  • 1900mm width (2011: 2000mm) for drag reduction.
  • Cars expected to be as fast as the 2012 cars.
Sounds like these will make for some pretty competitive racing! I wonder how far the manufactures will go with the engines considering there are hardly any regulations against them, and one point even says engine regulations are free, with no Turbo, air restrictor, or capacity regulations for manufacturers.

On the last page of this link you can see some drawings of how the 2014 cars will be visibly different from the current cars.

While I cannot get myself to believe that engines will actually be open that would be awesome. I wonder who Porsche will get on their team of engineers!

I agree. I'm sure there are some strings attached to the engine regulations, but it's great to see that manufacturers will be able to give it all they've got instead of having to make do with tiny over regulated engines. It'd be cool to see a flat 6 in the Porsche!
