Porsche plans Ferrari 458 rival

I think it needs to surpass the competition in performance, and be no higher in price to take over the segment. Ferrari and McLaren are seen as higher-end marques. To get a cross-shopper into the Porsche, the car itself must be superior. Uphill battle, but I have no doubt Porsche can do it.

From the sounds of it (and my own speculation) price wise I would expect it to be near the current 911 price point and use a majority of the same interior pieces. Engine wise I think it will use the same specs as the 911 as well, to save development costs and tooling for production. The trade off for or the argument for this will be that the rear seat is now out-moded reducing the 'every-day-supercar' mantra that the 911 has. The trade does increase the dynamics portion of the new car though so it will be essentially a 'new 911 version' that is near the same price and gets rid of the GT3 or GT2 and their respective RS versions, allowing room for future special versions.

I think we have all known for a very long time that the 911 rear-engine design was seriously flawed, but too many old timer Porsche lovers demanded their rear seat space. This has seriously retarded Porsche's future modern car development.
Many of us knew that the Porsche 918 platform design would eventually replace the 911 platform as being the Porsche marque's flagship chassis. I can't wait!!!!
