If you really own a 458 Italia, then you might know that passion is one very important factor when you buy a supercar. And passion is a combination of driving pleasure, looks, performance, sound, childhood dreams, and so on. GT2 RS owners love the car because it's raw and involving. 458 Italia owners love it because it has a wonderful high revving engine which gives them goosebumps everytime they drive it.
Does the Mclaren gives you the same goosebumps as the 458, the same feedback like the gt2 rs? remember chris harris driving the mp47247? He said: "lack of emotion" and "cold"!
I don't want to enter my garage just thinking "oh my car is 1 sec faster than .... on the nordschleife". Driving is about emotions. The Mclaren is a very impressive performer, but driving is just so much more than simple numbers.
By the way, even If the mp624624 is a bit faster then the GT2 RS, remember, it has no all new carbon fiber monocoque, no midengine, not many electronic aids, no air brake, no PDK gearbox but still fast as hell. Impressive mhm?

Drop a bunch of big ass turbos on any engine and it will produce 600bhp and make a car go fast. BFD.
I also suspect most of these 2RS buyers couldn't get a 458 or a 12C if they wanted to as they are in far shorter supply and big demand, so they go for what is easily available and can turn similar numbers on paper.

You do realize how small the turbos on the GT2RS are, right?

This
and you do know that the GT2 RS is sold out right? It was a limited production vehicle......
This
No. The only thing that is impressive is putting a price tag of 260-270k on a relic and actually finding a bunch of people that will open their wallets. QED.

I believe Jcc2tx and MikeS both have the GT2RS and both have the 12c on order....

Both 2RS owners here have 12C's coming so your point is a moot one. You clearly don't buy these cars for the same reason most of us do ..... The driving experience.

Um....I just love porsche. I want a car which makes me happy when I drive it. I want a car that has many technological advancements to keep my ass on the road. I want a car that makes me feel proud to own it. I want all of this is a car that looks like a 911.
If this doesnt make sense to you - that's ok.
I'm sure that the 458 is a great car - but, I dont want $6,000 annual service bills anymore.
I'm sure the Mclaren is a great car - but, it doesnt look like a 911. It doesn't have the 40 year history of the 911. It wasnt in every wet dream I had as a young boy. Nor does it have dealership in my town.
What other members are saying here is - not everyone likes nikes.
Are you this angry when Apple launches a new device and then 4 weeks later puts an enhancement on it?
Some people are ok with not owning the latest and greatest. And, if it will bother you pulling up to the valet with a GT2RS - I think you have some self esteem issues which I'm most certainly not qualified to respond to.
The 911 turbo is a special car - you like it or you dont. I personally enjoy it immensley. Drove my Turbo S to work this AM for the first time in months. Put such a grin on my face....I dont know another car which would make me this happy at this point in my life.
I was just in london - the Mclaren dealer is opening right next door to the Mandarin Oriental hotel. They were the only company (and Rolex) to lease space in this, the most expensive building in the city. If you want to pay for their rent, so be it. I'll take the tried and true overpriced 911 2RS any day of the week. To me, its exclusive and there is nothing better. So there.
