Do you guys remember Turbo Timers?

So, Turbo timers. Are they used anymore? Is there any need?

I would still use one if I had a hopped-up turbo car. I had one on my Evo. With the GTI, I just drive calmly through my neighborhood - should be plenty to get the turbo slow and cool...

IIRC, mine was an HKS coupled with a Power Enterprise boost controller.

I still use one on my Supra, have a few friends with them on diesel trucks, however their egt's are up in the 13-1400 degree range.

I'd say it depends on how you are going to be driving the vehicle. If you know you are going to be driving hard but stepping out of the vehicle soon after, I would use the timer. If not, you can do as Chris does and just give it several minutes of light driving prior to shut down and you should be fine.

I think most modern turbocharged cars actually keep circulating the oil for 1 or 2 minutes after shutting down the engine, which is why you don't see people putting them on modern cars. That and splicing in with modern electronics and immobilizers isn't as easy as it used to be back in the '90s.

No turbo timer on my wrx. If I do drive it hard I'll let it run for little bit after.

I am on my second Turbo Subaru (first a modded Legacy GT and now a 2010 STi) and I have never used a turbo timer. They are laughed about on Subaru forums.

yes, had one on supra. just let the porsche idle, while sitting in-car, for 20-25 seconds
