If the only thing you are looking for is fastest laptimes i say GT2. some engine and handling mods and it will humiliate the GT3 RS (at a very small and twisty track the GT3 will do better against a GT2). The GT3 is underpowered compared to a GT2.
And this is if you are a very good driver

For pure enjoyment though,GT3 all the way!
the GT3 is much more forgiving and easy to drive. most people will probably be faster in a GT3

ps. dont get this wrong, the GT3 is mighty fast, just not as fast as a gt2.

I have been on a 996 gt3 and a 997 gt3 RS, both really amazing machines. I have to say that the RS makes a difference and will be a blast to go to track events. For what I have seen in person for example souped up Mitsu Evos , and in the Net crazy turbos like sharkweres and Switzer kits, it is a choice that you have to make that it suits you. And probably you will most likely find some one posting faster laps than you.

People will always give you props in the track for owning a P-car, In the end is the fun factor vs convenience ( price, place to park it, use you are going to give it, FUN!!) that will seal the deal on what you should buy.

For me I'd get the GT2 rs because I'm a huge fan of forced induction. If I wasn't I'd get a 997.2 GT3 rs.

I truly would like to drive a GT2 RS or even a GT2. The Turbo is good enough for me, that thing really pulls and has a great DD capability.

 

I would get the 993 GT2, lovely exterior and bad ass car.
