Advice needed: 07' GT3 might become my DD, should I sell?
#62
Guys.... I have to give up my DD mini cooper S and the GT3 now becomes my only car. I drive about 30-45 min back and forth between hollywood and culver city and the streets are hell.
I really do not wanna give up the GT3, but there is no way I could handle driving it every day... I would end up hating the car.
Should I sell and get a turbo? I really don't wanna lose the p-car and this way the turbo might be a better DD. Not sure.
Anybody gone through this? Really blows to have to give the gt3 up

Go buy a used E46 3 series 4 door manual with under 60K miles, they are cheap. As in under 8K cheap.
Have it checked out (if you don't know a good mechanic, let me know, I do, and he has the factory GT1 computer).
Slap an aftermarket warranty like Warranty Direct.
You now have two nice RWD platform cars.

Not really about the comfort of it Al. BigE touched on it in his post....
I really don't wanna put shitty ass miles on the car, drive up the miles and have it depreciate. It would be a shame for such an incredible machine. These crappy city roads (La Brea, Fairfax, La Cienega, washington, venice... just to name a few) are a real bitch on the suspension and overall condition of the car.

You bought the car to enjoy it right?
You of course are absolutely right about resale. My 996 GT2 with close to 40K miles was basically worthless when I turned it in.
But let me tell you, looking back now that I am driving the E30, the M5, and the S4, I miss even the miles in the GT2 on crappy badly paved West LA roads.
Just get a BMW beater. The E46's are cheap and plentiful, and the 4 door manual one will last for years and be very utilitarian.
