Yeah nothing to do with the hybrid part of the drivetrain, just broke a valve spring in the last hour. Everything was in place for victory, but a little short on good old-fashioned luck this time.

Sadly, I cancelled my deposit on this car.

Although it's the most heart-achingly beautiful car I've seen, the not-ready-for-primetime techno crap is not what I'd pay $750 for.

Take the tub, body, interior and power it with a 750 hp/500 torque powerplant and I'm a buyer.

Does anyone have the Invitation Code to view the 918 Spyder for Monterey August 13/14th?
https://www.918vipview.com/
I am viewing the Porsche GT3 R Hybrid at Monterey at the track on Saturday. I will be at the Quail on Friday at the Porsche Zentrum, hoping the 918 will be there.

^^ Ya, a code would be cool...

Who's giving out these invites anyway, and to who?

Porsche actually gives out the codes, to various people by either email or invitation sent in the mail, it is a private viewing. I signed up for the Porsche Zentrum (test drive and viewing of the Porsche GT3 R Hybrid) at the Quail Lodge in Monterey, which I had a code for that. But no code for the 918 Spyder as of yet.

What day is this going to happen? I will be at Quail Ridge in Carmel on Wednesday the 11th for Porsche's test drive shin-dig! We haven't decided yet to stay the night or roll back to Bakersfield.

Porsche, Porsche, Porsche. Porsche will showcase their three rockin’ hybrids during the Monterey Peninsula Automotive Week from August 9-15th, 2010.
Not sure exactly where the 918 will be on Friday, that's what I want to know.

Here is what I have heard online so far..
You can have a opportunity to check out the Porsche 911 GT3 R Hybrid August 12 – 15. The race car will be based at the Porsche Zentrum, a specially-built facility open to visitors located up Peter Hayes Hill on the compounds of the Pebble Beach Lodge. Attendees will also have a unique opportunity to see the car and chat with Porsche Works racer Patrick Long at "The Quail, A Motorsport Gathering" from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. on Friday, August 13. On Saturday, the 911 GT3 R Hybrid will be showcased at the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion (formerly the Monterey Historic Automobile Races) at the Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca, and then alongside the 918 Spyder at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance on Sunday.

Among the Porsche models on display throughout the Monterey peninsula, the first North American public appearance of the 918 Spyder concept at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance on Sunday, August 15 will be a highlight
of the weekend as it makes its first North American debut. However, the three hybrids will not be the only ones on display.

As part of Porsche’s 60 years in the automotive business, Porsche will be bringing a collection of its classic and contemporary models to be displayed throughout the week. The Quail Lodge will be the temporary home of a few rare Porsche models such as a 1955 and 1958 356 Speedster, a 1960 356 B Carrera, 2000 GS Carrera GT, and a 1962 356 Carrera 2 Cabrio. Newer Porsche models will also be on hand for consumer test drives during this beauty packed weekend.

I'm going to the Miami deal on Aug 21st. I hear car will be $650k prox. Not worth it. Too much out there for that. We buy speed, not neat electric sh*t. If the motor had 750 HP, then things change and the electric stuff is ok. None of us will buy the car because of great gas mileage. I mean, seriously? We won't put enough miles on the cars to matter about gas mileage. I'm still going, cause I plan on begging them to drive the car, and I will ask some pointed questions.
