Regarding the 05-06 discussion, I believe that for the US, production had to be ended in 2005 due to some new airbags regulations. However, I believe that the rest of the world could get 06 CGT.

The easiest thing to do is to ask CondorCGT. His car is most likely a 2006.

In the end we all right. 2005 for the US and 2006 for the ROW.

I know for a fact the VIN is an 06 as the 8th/7th digits back were 6L, 6 for the year of production, L for the plant (Leipzig).
I'm still very confused at the sequence of production (don't give the VIN). It's a '06 model, with a sequence from '04.

I have no intention of giving the VIN. That is Mike's business.

As for the sequence I do not know. Maybe there is some unknown reason that unit skipped production in 2004? No way to know without contacting Porsche I would suppose. I'm assuming it could've been held for the buyer - kind of like I assume #911 we sold was requested/held for that customer.

Regardless, the 10th digit of every VIN# indicates the production year. It is alpha-numeric; i.e. 9=2009, A=2010. Kind of like the first digit is country of production: W=Germany, Z=Italy, 1=US, and so on.

11th digit for Porsche is plant: L=Leipzig, S=Stuttgart, U=Cayman/Boxster plant I can't spell the name. 12th digit can indicate series. For example, 2009 911 would be "9S7xxxxx" 2009, Stuttgart, 7=997. On 996s that digit is a 6, on 993s a 3, etc.

I studied VINs for a while. I know what a legitimate Porsche VIN should look like.

Just confirmed, the car is definitely a MY06 build. It was also one of the last 5 that were produced although I can't confirm exactly which one. The car has 10 miles on the odometer.
