The Official Teamspeed Porsche 918 Picture & Information Thread!
#302
Porsche’s 918 Spyder is undergoing cold weather testing ahead of the car’s launch next year. The 918’s complex hybrid drivetrain is being pushed hard in the sub zero temperatures as Porsche’s engineers fine tune the charging systems.
The white, Martini-liveried 918 appears to be testing a different cooling set up to the darker car, with blanked off intakes in the front bumper. The large rear spoiler, which automatically raises and lowers, is clearly visible on this car.
The 918’s exhaust tailpipes are also directly related to the performance of the car’s battery. They exit from the top of the body, directly behind the driver and passenger; this unusual format was designed to improve cooling around the car’s battery, crucial to the longevity and storage capacity. Asa a result, Porsche has had to develop special coatings for the paint that are resistant to staining from the exhaust.
Along with the twin electric motors, the 918 uses a 4.6-litre V8 with 527bhp – combined with the motors, the car can produce 784bhp and 569lb ft.

Porsche 918 Spyder officially priced at 845,000 USD
929,000 USD with Weissach Package
Porsche has released pricing information for the upcoming 918 Spyder which in the United States will be sold as a 2014MY. Expected to arrive at a major auto show this year, the highly anticipated Porsche 918 Spyder will be sold in the U.S. at a starting price of 845,000 USD (407,500 GBP or 634,500 EUR), without taking into account any destination & handling fees. Opt for the Weissach package and price jumps to 929,000 USD. This optional package reduces the supercar's curb weight by 77 lbs (34 kg) by removing the audio system, air conditioning, door storage and armrest, while the regular paint is removed in favor of an exterior foil.
The 2014 Porsche 918 Spyder is expected to feature a V8 4.6-liter engine generating 580 hp (432 kW) and more than 500 Nm (369 lb-ft) of torque. It will work together with a couple of electric motors producing an extra 245 hp (183 kW).
Thanks to this setup, Porsche's flagship model will provide a combined output of approximately 795 hp (593 kW) and 780 Nm (575 lb-ft). It will complete the 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) run in 3.2 seconds, before hitting a top speed of 199 mph (320 km/h).
