This may not pertain to the GT3, but my 996 C4S (M96 engine) would billow huge puffs of oil smoke under heavy use (i.e. track) if you overfilled the oil. I always made sure the oil was around half full. That was plenty to last a track weekend without a problem, and avoided the 'Why am I getting black-flagged? ZOMFG - the engine dun blowed up!' feeling.

No physical dip stick on E60 M5. Since it is the same engine in the E63 M6 no dip stick either. Pretty certain the E90/92/93 M3 has no dipstick either.

I've talked to some Porsche engineers about this...
They told me that it's best if you have it at the first oft those three marks - just like it is on your picture.
If it is at the bottom or if it is blinking you should refill about 1/2 liter or less to get it back to 1/3.
Nothing worse for a GT3 engine than to much oil!!

Damn, this whole "no dipstick" thing is new to me as well... Guess I should start driving cars from the last decade.

Thanks all the info,

I was reading your posts over the phone.

I had refill it to about 1/3 liter and went to the mark above what in the pic.

Completed the track day with so much fun...amazing machine
