well not to be a track nazi, but i just find it really irresponsible to drive towards the limit on the street, ie the gumball retard that killed those ppl(deserves death via crucifiction, or something equally as horrible imo) , but having a spirited drive on a secluded road is always fun

 

I had an '07 997 TT and made the switch (via a 4S PDK) although I knew that the GT3 would rarely be tracked, if ever. For me it made sense because I wanted my P car experience to be an event every time I'd take the car out. I live in a area with wonderful low traffic driving roads which are windy, cambered, and IMO just perfect for a "driver's" car with precise handling and instant power (no lag)... i.e. the GT3. There are many places around my home where I can wring out the essential elements of the car that in turn give me the experience that I want without going to a track.

If I were living in a city or there weren't "good" roads in my area, I'm not too sure I would go for a GT3. It is a car that so much more raw in every aspect than any other type of 997 that I've driven. For me it is perfect. I do feel your dilemma and wish you well whichever way you decide to go.

 

These two cars are so very different… you need to know what you want from the vehicle
I was looking for a DD and so I got the TT, if I was looking for a weekend car it would have been the GT3
BUT a weekend and sometimes track car I would have went with the GT3RS for sure!!

 

FWIW, I dd'ed my GT2 in crazy ass LA traffic, it's not THAT unliveable. The stiff clutch gets interesting after about an hour sitting on the 10 stop and go traffic in the rain, but never once did I wish I was in an automatic Camry or some other softie car.

And 997 GT cars are way easier to live with than the loud, crude, and unrefined 996 GT cars.

 

Haku said it best when he said every time in the Porsche should be an experience. I love my C4S, but the GT3 calls me like the siren's song... I'll be keeping my C4S until this whole peace craze blows over (FMJ reference), but the GT3 will be my end goal. Custom spec, Euro delivery... DONE.

I will unlikely track my GT3 either - I don't have $130K to ball up with no insurance cover (or at least not worth several thousand $$ to cover it when I do track it).

 

I say keep the TT. Throw on a new front bumper, a wing, swap out the wheels, and put a roll cage in it. I just prefer whatever goes faster, but that is just my $0.02.

 

i read none of this thread but this quote. NO you aren't crazy. Turbos lose appeal about the 10th time you hit the throttle on an on ramp. GT3's never lose appeal. Once you get used to driving a car that spools up to 8400rpms you will never look at another Turbo again or long for it's 2000-5000 rpm bursts that force you to spend half your driving experience shifting and none of it smiling.

GT3 engines are superior in every way and the cracker box crate motors Porsche puts in the Turbos and standard 911's aren't worth owning anyway.

You will love the car. I'll even bet you $50 bucks. If after 5000 miles you haven't forgotten your Turbo. PM me and I will send you the cash.

Drive the GT3 and your TT back to back to back, and I think you will make your mind up fairly quickly!

No right or wrong answer really, the TT is a lot more torque-y and comfortable but the appeal may wear off when you hop into a GT3. Its like you went to the 997 gym.

The clutch pedal in the TT is assisted and quite light (significantly lighter than even a C2S). The shifter isn't nearly as precise. The throttle response is a bit more muted. The chassis is softer and feels a good bit heavier in the nose and doesn't provide the same feedback as in the GT3. As mentioned many times in this thread, there is no substitute for the free-revving, high-redline nature of the GT3. And, perhaps most importantly, you wont get the soundtrack you get in the GT3.

By the same token, after sitting in stop and go in a GT3 (stiff clutch pedal), and hearing/feeling much more road imperfection, if you hop into your TT, the car will feel like the sauna after the gym. A really #*@&ing fast sauna.

That said, you should decide between the cars, track or no track. I think if you do get a GT3 it will make you go to the track!

 

Life is too short to sort of "save" cars.
If you buy it, enjoy it to the fullest with the least amount of worries.
With that being said, GT3= track it if you can.

 

i have an 07 tt. i was able to keep it for dd. however, when i have the choice, i much prefer my 10 gt3. in fact, the night before i can hardly sleep, waiting to get the chance to drive her. admittedly i have had quite a few mods done to her but the driving experience is so much more visceral and intoxicating.
