Is it silly to want a GT3 if it probably won't see the track?

I have come across this very same question on all the other forums with all the common answers. My opinion is thus; it depends where you live, where you drive and how you drive. If you live in downtown Chicago or New York and use your car only as weekender of a DD then I would say definitely no, this car would not be fun to own. If you live out in the country with little traffic and rarely go into the city then it’s a yes. I have had my GT3 since Dec of 06 and it now has 38,000 miles on it. I can honestly say all but maybe 10% of the miles have been on back roads and most of them have been 2nd’3rd and some 4th gear. It’s 70 miles in any direction to the first stop light, I am on my 13th set of tires and my car has never been on a track!! Oh, and I have just had SW 3.9 conversion completed. I’m afraid my tire mileage is due to take a considerable drop!! If you want to buy a car because of it’s looks and not the way drives then consider a 430 or a DB9!! I’ve owner Porsche’s for over 47 years now, the GT3 is the best so far!! Just my 2 cents.

who needs a track, if you have back roads as good as snowboarder54 you'll be more than fine

I think you should just stick with the Turbo for 3 reasons. 1) the GT3 won't be tracked anyway 2) it's just for looks 3) you'll take a hit when you sell or trade the TT.

Why not just get the GT2 wheels and a different wing and / or front bumper.

A bit off topic, Swoody, do you have a drop on the TT now? if so (looks like it in the av) what route did you go; springs, coils?

And the knowledge you gained makes it so much fun to toy with people in really fast cars who clearly cannot drive.

I love the WTFBBQ look that people in their [insert your expensive sports car here] get when I dust them in a decreasing radius half mile long off ramp in my weetle E30.

No drop, totally stock....Thanks guys for all the input. It's not that I wouldn't take it to the track, matter of fact I'd love to take the turbo to a track. I work at sea in Alaska and am gone 6-7 months of the year and my damned luck seems to be that I miss almost all available events (novice). I know I said looks is the draw but obviously there is all of the aforementioned facts about the nimbleness, NA sound etc... It is a bit of a quandry for me that's for sure!!! Thanks again for all of the input....I have put the turbo up for the winter as I hit the fishing grounds here again in a couple weeks and the weather here has totally gone to HELL!!!!....this will be on my mind for the next few months.....

I have done both through the years. But to be very honest I prefer my back road driving to the track. There is nothing better then driving 428 miles in one day from No. Ca. too southern Or. all on back roads. Much like driving the Targa Florio. Never seeing the same turn twice for that many miles is very special. It’s like driving a SW 3.9, you have to try it before really understand the essence of it all. Words can only describe so much!!

If it's just the looks you're after, then just get the GT3 front bumper and wing and call it a day. Suspension upgrades/tweaks will make it handle damn near close to a GT3. +1 on the depreciation hit (unless you already bought it used and left that for the original owner). As for the tracking argument...puhleez. It's a road car with some goodies making it more track worthy. Tired of the 'Oh, it's a track car. It's a waste if it never sees the track' BS. Get a Cup Car and drive it on the street. THAT's a waste (yes, I realize you can't legally drive one on the street).

But if you truly like NA more, then go for it.
