Questions on buying a GT3RS
#23
that is a great and hilarious way to put it.
Cheers.
I have never met anyone who owns a GT3/RS have an once of disappointment.
Perfect RS Day:
1) Drive to the track
2) Have a cup of coffee while others unload their cars
3) Rock the Track
4) Hit some back roads on the way home
5) Pick up dinner, kid, etc and look like a hero.
Just a great car that is enjoyable any which way you use it.

yea the cup is pretty much the most amazing car ever lol, you can beat the shit out of them and they just never break, and when u shift into fourth it sounds like the gates of hell open and a thousand screaming banshees come at you lol....
but even the 04 gt3 street i had with re-valved shocks felt more agile imo, with the porsche set-up theyre absolutely dreadful though

Without question my RS is the closest thing Porsche makes to a 997 Cup. It's heavy because it has $hit in it. Seats for the girlfriend and airbags for our US Gov't.
It's tough to go from a Cup car back to the realities of heavier street cars without remembering how much more agile the light weights are.
Buy the RS and you won't look back. Fantastic looking with the goods to back it up

While I agree that the PCCB's are crap on a track and a heal toe shift is a nightmare with those grabby POS's I totally disagree about Uninspiring and Poser. The subtle changes of the RS over the standard GT3 are exactly the opposite. It's a better looking Car. Proper width and a better looking wing. RS is about a 10k difference if that on the car and well worth every nickle.
rs is a poser mobile all day everyday, almost everyone ive met with one is a poser and runs 2:30's at the glen, poser mobile, and yea ill take a 996 gt3 with revalved shock ne day over ne other varient of the gt series(except cup ofc).
Can we assume your Cup is a 996? It's an 05 but I raced guys with my 997 cups that had 997's built in 05 out of Europe and early versions. I don't totally agree they are bullit proof. The 3rd to 4th shift is a lot different in a non sequential car and I could totally understand your love for a 4th gear grab in a 996 Cup. The 996 cups were a lot less Fragile as well. 997 Cups were hyper sensitive to many driver errors and some of the best drivers that travelled and raced against me could burn out their clutch in 4 races with just 2 or 3 mis shifts.
its a 996 and yea a 997 cup is no fun at all, the sequential sucks and its just not as much fun, if i was smoking crack(pro racing) yea ofc we'd get a 997, but the current one is just for open track days and having fun with a couple buddies that have them
edit: and yea they are completely bullet proof, the only thing that stops them is walls and other cars

poser mobile, sorry

i stand by my statement of a 996 gt3 w/ revalved shocks(seats and harnesses too ofc) feels like a race car, an rs is a poser mobile destined to be passed by spec miatas at Kojote events

buy a 996 gt3 for 45k and have a few free years of open track/DE instead.... or hell cup cars are running 50k now so y not lol

Baron ^ I pose in nothing I buy. I'm a driver. I guess one of my cars is Poser mobile though. You seem to be consistant in thinking so. 30k miles last year spread amongst my fun cars with another 10k miles plus on my DD's.
to have fun in a 996 cup on an open track day is impossible unless you guys just rent the track and it's yours. Any open track days with a hint of driving skill you'd be waiting for a point by about every 10 seconds.
I have no arguement with anyone that likes gt3's and don't ever care to argue on boards. You can drive your 996's and enjoy. I'll pose in my POS 997RS. Tho it's funny the 2 drivers I had dinner with last weekend that ran their 935's at Monterey Historics this year felt their GT3RS's were by far the best road going Porsches they have ever owned as well. I'll let them know your thoughts.
I'm sure tho it won't compare to the 2:03's you must be dropping at the Glen in your 996

im saying in general, and a 996 cup at a kojote event(no points, u can pass in corners) is a ton of fun, theres always a few cups there and the amateur nascar trucks are pretty competitive too, im not saying an RS is a pos in ne way, it is better than a gt3 hands down, what im saying is they are typically driven by posers and they are typically road blocks. as far as 935's go...lol ud have to be a brave ****er and really trust us mechanic to strap urself into one of those these days lol and cups should run well under 2 min at the glen.
I had no idea about watkins glen..so I was just assuming 30 seconds difference with a typical poser track guy. i made up the 2:03 and don't even know how long the track is.

So is it possible to replace the ceramic rotors with Steel or do you have to replace calipers etc?
Is the 2010 GT3 body the same as the previous one? and how much wider is the 07-08 GT3 RS?
