1 mile acceleration testing 997GT2

Toby, nice job. We gotta chat about your ICs. I think I want a pair for my car, and I also want Mr. RS to give me the same tune package as yours... only difference is I want to try that Akrapovic Evolution exhaust system. I bet it would make your package just perfect.
A quarter mile in the 10 second range should be about right for your car. Why is it surprising?

well that is what I thought until I met the UK agent who coincidentally was at this airfield day..... he said the full system inc headers cats and muffler was £12K !!!!! A bit off my radar at that price even though I'm sure it is the panacea for our cars.I would be fascinated if you asked them (RS) for a price on the "kit 600PS" as they named it - I'd love to know what they are pricing my intercoolers in at !
The reason I though the 1/4mile number was dodgy is that my Driftbox was coming out in the mid 11s at ~134mph when I extrapolated 402m from the runs..... maybe the DB is wrong ?

Yes, the Akrapovic system is expensive, but what I like is the OEM-level build quality as well as the fact that they are using Ti headers, which saves another 12lbs. or 5.4kg. Also, if you look at the dyno sheet for just the exhaust system, it really is quite impressive.. they are claiming 40.7hp on just the exhaust alone!
I will inquire with RS about the 600ps kit. What is the best email address for them? According to the Cargraphic catalog, the only kit that they offer with ICs (obviously the Secan) is with their 680ps kit, which retails for about USD$40K.
Here is a question for you, what's the main difference between your tune and the 680ps kit? Is there a reason why it makes 20 more hp? Are they also intending to replace the Secans for this kit with your CTR coolers?
Also, can I obtain the ICs directly from you/CTR?
Also, do you happen to know anything about the TechArt package that they are using for their GTStreetRS? From what I can gather, it seems that all the top Euro tuners have the same approach for our GT2s. Change the cats, use the larger VTGs from KKK Race Dept., larger CF pipes from air cleaner to Turbos, and an ECU tune. I wonder what TechArt does to get theirs to 700hp and what kind of ICs they use?
Normally, I wouldn't pay attention to TechArt except for the fact that they've been dominating the Tuner GP over Cargraphic!
As for your Driftbox extrapolation, not sure what to really say but I would think that a timing station would be the one to yield the accurate time, since it's measuring actual distance from the time you crossed the timing marker. Your car should be capable of sub 11 second quarter times all day long (literally!) with your setup. So I guess factory launch control is pretty useless now, huh? Perhaps you can get Mr. Schirmler to retune that for you too

If only the Akrapovik system had been out before I did mine

Whoops, made a typo there, I meant "kit 660".....
The CG 680 kit for the GT2 is "on paper" only, theoretical, they haven't actually done one yet AFAIK. As you point out mine is the same components apart from the I/Cs and when mine was tuned on the engine dyno the water cooled intercooler was used and I can see from the IAT data used to tune mine that the IAT levels were the same as they would use for a Secan ie max ~47degC
I understood that the expansion intake is a bottleneck with this being the maximum power ~660PS with conventional bigger inlets needed to go higher.
If you want the CTR coolers drop me a PM and I will sort - would be interesting to know what RS will charge tho' ?
Re the Akrapovik special system, I don't believe their dyno numbers. It is a chassis dyno and big torque turbo cars always give weird mid range torque numbers since the rollers can never brake the surging boosted torque effectively enough.
I had my GT2 on Manthey's Maha and it read 736NM torque (with headers and 200 cell cats) but when RS engine dynoed it pre tuning it read 690NM. I would say on the road it did feel more torquey with the exhaust mods so not sure what gives ?
RS say their VTGs are different (yes I know all tuners say this !) but theyu have a good story about a KKK student who designed the compressor wheels. They had 3 sizes and the biggest of the 3 basically didn't work when they tried it on teh engine dyno, it had "stalling" issues (whatever that means - the German translation was not good) My car has the second biggest and one can really hear the mass of air being worked, the turbos feel "BIG" if you know what I mean (but still start boosting at 2300rpm !)
Re Techart - I don't belive their power numbers - they have about 650PS which is still impressive. The tuner GP car was a GT2 with cup tryes and iced inbtercoolers vs the CG 4WD car on street Dunlops and there was a fraction of a second in it and the CG car blew the TA one away in that 0-300 test quoted above, it was ~3s quicker to 300 !!!
As you say there is only TA nad CG/RS as options for our cars really, Wimmer has some nice packages on paper but I don't know enough about them. There is no doubt that tuning these VTGs properly is a difficult thing which has not been mastered by many....
