Need advice on trading Turbo for GT3RS
Guys, I have an opportunity to do a trade of my 09 997TT (white on black) for a 07 GT3RS (Orange) - both have under 1000 miles and even smell new -- better than showroom condition. The dilemma is as follows:
I custom ordered my turbo (fully loaded with ceramics and all personalization) so love it aesthetically, but wish it had a little more noise/soul, etc. I would have ordered a new 08 RS if new ones had been available at the time, so I always have had a soft spot for the orange ones, as the "one that I couldn't have". Now that I have the opportunity to buy one that meets my standards (it is also fully, fully loaded), should I do the trade or wait for the 2010 GT3RS (my dealership is saying they should be able to get me one).
The questions I have are:
1. If I could keep one car for 10 years+, would I be happier if I have the GT3RS 997.1 or Turbo 997.1? What if I tuned the turbo to some ridiculous HP/Trq???
2. Would I miss the amenities of the Turbo (i.e., new PCM, bluetooth, etc) or would I not give a crap?
3. If I trade in the current car for a 2011 RS, how much more would I get in 1.5 years for a 07 GT3RS than a 09 Turbo with GT1 engine??
Note: I'm not concerned about a DD since I have my Cayenne. Thanks in advance.

Since you do have a DD and you are missing the "soul" and noise, I don't think you'd miss the amenities of the turbo. . If you're keeping the car for ten years, I'd think the GT3RS would be a better car in the long haul. Compare it to the the track ready Porsches of the past and old turbos. The value of RS America etc. seem to be pretty solid.
The third question is a hard one. I have no idea.

I DD'ed my GT2 for three years and close to 40K miles.
Not the most comfortable car in the world, but it most certainly makes the otherwise boring commute a lot more fun.
If you are looking for rawness and soul, you need to look at a 996 GT3. For example, in my stock 996 GT2, you can't use your cellphone at speed faster than 55mph because you can't hear jack since the cabin gets filled with all kinds of nice noises from the car and the engine.
The 996 GT3 is even louder, stock.
Granted my seat time in the 997 is limited, but even the GT3RS is much more liveable in this regard than the 996 GT cars.
The downside (or upside, depending on your perspective) is that you must have some track time and autox time under your belt or the 996 GT cars can easily land you upside down in say, oh, the Malibu Canyon.

So I can safely assume the GT3RS would be more fun than a 700ft-lb Turbo?

Jon, it's actually the other way around -- I currently have the white 997TT and was leaning toward trading it for an orange 997GT3RS. So trade the Turbo then, if I follow the gist of your reply?

Wow did I read your first post way wrong! Sorry been a long week. I would trade the TT for the GT3 RS. I love the TT but the GT3 RS is something special you don't see everyday. I read/hear driving the GT3 RS is an amazing experiance, no phone, put the radio on mute, sit back, hear that engine rev, and enjoy the ride.
