You and me both bud. Hey, you can pick up a nice 911 Turbo and drop a few more thousands on it software, exhaust, intake, headers, etc and get close to a GT2 for a little less

The car is not worth 200K new, it just isn't.

As much as we loved ours, the lousy resale meant that the wise thing for us to do was to give back the car. I mean, WTF, 86K buyout and I put 36K (can't remember any more if it was 35 or 36) on it. So it was probably only worth 60K max in the secondary market.

They should have priced the new GT2 at about 140K, and the 996 definitely should have been priced there as well.

As it stands, the current market price of the 996 GT2 makes it the steal of the century. Of course, I would advise anyone to have enough autox and track time before taking delivery, let along doing the "hey ma look at me stunts."

It was a beast of a car, the last of its breed where the car demands respect and will not hesitate to kill you.

Now, if only the LA housing market will completely tank so I can get back into the car market...
It's amazing what the internet has done for the car market, both positively and negatively. It's the globalization and the ease of shopping that has really made a lot of these cars prices tank really fast. When you really think about it, 300 cars (give or take) made worldwide should demand some sort of markup from the mass produced vehicles, but it doesn't because whenever you have more than 1 or 2 of those 300 up for sale, it's the perception that they're readily available that doesn't make them as attractive, and of course new stuff keeps coming out from so many manufacturers that there's so much choice. Manufacturers incentives for the secondary car market is so below the totem pole that they don't care what the resale value is.

Now I agree with you that the 996 was really crazy priced at arond $198k, should have been around $140k, and then as you add more hp, new technology, etc, move the price closer to the $200k mark. That's what Lambo did, not that it's helping them right now

I remember when someone used to say "There's a GT2 for sale", it was a wow factor. Ah those were the days

Higher mile 01 and 02's are in the 40's.

By higher I mean like 40 plus K miles.

Not really THAT high, and personally, for a modern Porsche, this is a good indication that the car has been reliable.
