Wow Your Neighbors: Maybach’s Wild Exelero is Available for Purchase

By Stuart Schwartzapfel, Team Speed Editor

For around $8 million, you can own a one of a kind concept car capable of more than 200 MPH. Exelero, which was featured in a 2006 Jay-Z rap video, was built by Daimler’s ultra-luxury manufacturer Maybach back in 2005.

The menacing black coupe was commissioned by Goodyear/Dunlap affiliate Fulda Tires to be a high-profile demonstrator for their new range of high-speed, ultra-wide, low-section gumballs. Designers penned Exelero to pay homage to the brand’s classic streamlined sportscar from the 1930s [In 1938, Fulda tested its tires on a Maybach SW 38].

Based on the $335,000+ Maybach 57 luxury sedan, the massive Exelero measures in at a boat-like 232 inches. Its 700-horsepower twin-turbocharged V12 will rocket the 5,852-pound bruiser to 60 MPH in 4.4 seconds and achieved some 218 MPH at the Nardo high-speed oval in Italy back in 2006.

The Verdict: The price of exclusivity just went up.

I'd rather get all the variants of the SLR than this and still have some change left.

I think the car is badass, reminds me of the car used in 10,000 dalmations... But the interior isn't classy at all. They need to replace the red accents with blackwood and charcoal accents.

I always loved the car, but at 8m, a bit out of my price range to say the least.

8 mil. What are they smoking. That's more than a lot of true classic collector's ferrari's. Hell, that's more than what the mercedes 540K is going for at auction which is one of the most famous benzes ever made. Plus, you think they could've at least put the new i-drive navigation, rather than the crap COMAND system.
