Mercedes Announces 435-hp Twin-Turbo 4.7L V8
#12
The twin-turbo 4.7l V8 referenced by the OP is set to replace the 5.5l NA motor currently used the S550. They didn't say anything about the AMG variants.

If the customer wants to get more power by changing things, neither the manufacturer, nor the EPA, can realistically do anything to stop them. For 90% of the people that just want a decent car to drive, it'll still be putting out clean enough emissions and attain decent enough fuel economy to keep both the EPA and the consumer happy.

All that matters in terms of fuel economy is how the EPA tests it and gets the results. Once the EPA determines the fuel economy for a specific vehicle, it doesn't matter anymore what the real world fuel economy is once it reaches the consumer. For the manufacturer to meet the CAFE standards and all that crap, it only matters what results the EPA gets during their testing.

I'm just saying it's BS b/c it's just a number to make the Government happy. However the issue is, for those of us on the front lines who actually sell a car-ppl are going to be shocked when they see how bad the fuel economy actually is in the real world with those Turbo Charged engines.
Now, most MB products give you approximlatey 20-25% BETTER Fuel economy then listed on the Monroney label.
I know S550 clients who average 22mpg or better, and get upto 27-28mpg on the highway.
I doubt that will be the case with the Turbo Charged engine.
