Sure the AMG SL's are much more solid, but I remember pushing a brand new 05 SL500 hard during an OEM sponsored autocross event and that thing was SLOOW to turn in, brakes felt spongy...its a wonder I didnt hit any cones while drifting it around the course all day

I own SL 55 AMG 2008, I tracked it, I was speeding on German highway 310kmh which is 192 miles per hour... and it stoped easilly!!! On track I was goind on streight up to 185 miles, brake perfect and the go again!!!!
AMG is made for sport, C, CLS, CL, S, SL, SLK, CLK, AMG car have different brakes, different airdynamics... they are made for speed and comfort... SL 500 is a great car, but break do fail... My father had S500 w220, when I was going on it 155miles and I pressed break it stoped for such a long time... but then he bought S55 AMG, A TOTTALY different story...

MeanMachine, you know what Im telling about, Im sure... AMG is not just price and letters, they state sporty performence!

Hate to flame but are you guys actually reading what is writing or just jumping into benz defensive mode? LOL

All your responses that say your cars handle great, yes Shawn said so too, until the car decided to shut off on him on the middle of the track. That's irrespective of whether it's an SL, SLk, AMG, or whatever. Yes brake fade was a factor, but according to him, all systems in the car shut down.

Shawn good to hear nothing catastrophic happened, it doesn't matter what kind of car it is, shutting down twice while on the road is unacceptable.

Yes, but it depends on the model you see; the C, SLK are the most track cars from the line up if you put the black series models on the side not that the SL,CL or S cannot be tracked but they still arent as better than say a BMW M6 or a M3.

Yes, I read it correct. My coment for that is: It seems that his father bought unlucky car, or used which was in some problems. My familly owns 7 mercedes, which 5 of them are AMG, and we never had this kind of problem... mercedes just dont shut down by it self, there should be some reasons...

The standard SL is not a track car. But if you buy the SL Black Series it is another story. And as far as your dads SL I take it its stock with not the right things on it that could make it suitable for the track. I have seen people use the old R129 as a track car and they seem to do fine with it. You just dont have the car set up for the track and that is most likley why you think Benz sucks.
