Thumbs down BMW of Dallas experience

I'd like to share an experience with you guys.

On saturday my mother went to do a car deal with BMW of Dallas. She told her sales person, Gary Aggas, that she would buy the X5 if he would make sure that he sold me her trade-in, the X3.

Gary agreed, to her, that he would sell me the car for the trade amount + $750, which I really don't have a problem with, but he could have drafted it to my mom's neighbor for no extra charge.

Gary never called on Saturday.

Monday rolls around like it does.... I called Gary 3x and left messages. After the 3rd call, he calls me back on my cell and left this message; "sorry i've missed you, i've been busy selling a 7series..." I call Gary back and we discuss drafting the x3 to the neighbor. He tells me that he will talk to his manager and call me back.

Tuesday comes and by 5pm my dad has left a message for the salesperson, Gary and the used car manager Steve. Nobody returned his calls. I, then call the dealer and ask to stay on the phone with the receptionists till either of the guys has time to get to the phone. Gary comes to the phone and tells me that the car may have been sold. I asked Gary to check and call me back. Gary calls back and tells me the car was sold today. I asked him why he hasn't called me today and he responds with "i've been here all day", which is irritating. I said, sir, you told my mother that you would sell me the trade and he responds with, "a verbal agreement isn't an agreement to buy a car". I asked him why he didn't do what he said he would do and he responds quite loudly with, "you can take it up with Steve, buddy" and hangs up on me.

Long story short, this is MY experience with said dealer. I have no respect for those that do not follow up with customer requests or do what they say they will do. Gary informed me that they have 210 stores during his rant, as if that matters to me, besides the reminder not to do business with corporations if at all possible.

I do not need an x3 anyway, just thought it a good vehicle to have around and put skis on the top, since I understand them to be all wheel drive. FWIW, the x3 is all white and has the M package. Its a 2006 with just under 100k and has, according to dealer, a $3,500 air conditioning problem. I hope they disclosed this to the person they "sold" it to.

Another thing, they sent my parents home in a vehicle the other night because they couldn't find the keys to the x3, before the trade happened. Maybe this will help someone. Sorry to rant.

Hi,

A lot of hassle, but can you return the X5?

Cheers,
Nik

the used manager called me back and said he personally worked the deal and that the conditions of the sale never involved me getting the x3, as if my mom lies...

like an old guy I work with says, "trust, but, verify."

Sounds like a typical dealership transaction to me.

ill speak to mom tomorrow and let her know the situation. she firmly believed this guy would do the right thing. if she takes it back, ill be proud of her, but i dont expect her to. ^^^ "typical used car salesman" stereotype.

the vehicle had been in the family for the majority of a decade and was intended to remain there. i would have gone straight to the dealership to get the deal done had mom not assured me everyone was on the same page and the dealer be closer. going there after it was sold would have not been good for anyone, mostly me.

fwiw, i bought the last 4 new cars sight unseen over the phone due to the same amount of distance. sitting around arguing with car dealers for an hour or 5 isnt something i like to do.

buyer be-ware of these guys at BMW of Dallas.

Ive had great experiences at Boardwalk Porsche, Red River Honda, Ramey Chevrolet and Reliable Chevrolet in the past 18 months.

Ill be on the phone with Tom, the GM in the morning regarding this issue. What he chooses to do with his employees is on him. Thanks for listening to this stuff....
