I own a '01 740i with the sport package. And having driven a regular one, I can say the lower diff makes a huge difference. The steptronic trans is fun but I rarely use it. It would be a shame if they didn't mate the 540i Sport with a lower diff. That engine is a blast so I could imagine a car a little lighter than mine with the same drivetrain would be awesome. I looked at a 540i with a manual but didn't drive it, now I wish I would have.
