Foglights = Accidents in the UK

Autoblog link

Can some of the Euro members help me out here.

I can't see how using foglights distracts other drivers to the point of causing accidents?

Reckless fog light drivers caused 300,000 accidents in 2011

- Two million near-misses caused by drivers leaving fog lights on in the same period

- Three million drivers admit to leaving fog lights on despite driving in good visibility, despite it being an official driving offence .

- One in five young drivers who had left fog lights on did so "because it looks good"
lol @ reckless fog light drivers

How? Avoid the lights, don't crash. Really not that difficult.

People drive around with only their foglights on, even at night, because they think it looks "cool". Only fog lights = Visibility 3,5% -> Fog lights = Idiocy. Therefore; Fog lights = Accident.

i think the issue they are addressing isn't driving only with fog lights, but rather leaving them on when it isn't necessary.

i fail to undersand how the latter would case accidents. I mean these aren't high beams that can blind opposing traffic, etc...

Yeah, douchebags in Spain leave the foglights on on his M3's, Hyundai Coupe's, (put other douchebag cars here), too.

Then I would've to resort to Plan B; They're British.

Note to self: an M3 is a "douche bag" car in Spain and likened to a Hyundai Coupe.

It's a ridiculous discussion that's been going on here for years as well. First of all I am curious exactly how they determined that "2 million near crashes" happened because someone was staring into a pair of foglights. Did they take a survey?

And secondly, you get blinded about 5 million times every day by aftermarket xenon bulbs pointing in every f-cking direction other than where it's intended, but you occaaaaasionally come across someone every other week -if you're actually looking for them- with their fog lights on, usually pointing down into the road because, well, that's what fog lights do.

Douchey? Absolutely. Causing accidents? Feck off. If you get distracted by something that isn't actually distracting, please have your license revoked. Thank you.

I wasn't even aware that M3s (post-E36) even had fog lights.

Thank you for reassuring me.

For a moment there i thought i was crazy for not understanding the real and tangible risks associated with using foglights.
