Looking for a first car

Hi,
In the hope that you're not trolling;
If it's your first car, you'll also know there's a fairly limited range for you to choose from these days in Australia.
For US members, in Australia P-platers (Probationary licence holders) cannot drive turbocharged/supercharged/V8's/even a lot of 6's are out of the question due to an interesting power to weight calculation which decides the cars they are allowed to drive.
A Lotus Elise in Australia is a $70,000 car, and apart from that being a lot to spend (whether you can afford it or not) on a first car - it's not a real FIRST car.
Perhaps give us some sort of indication as to what you're looking for.
My first car was a Honda Odyssey - otherwise known as the pimp van.
