Looking for a first car
#71
I must agree with Sechsgang, cut the guy some slack.
Aren't we all here for the same reason? To share our passion and interest for cars? In that case, why does it matter whether you are 12 years old or 75? As long as the guy is able to behave and express himself in a mature way, I don't see why age should matter. Furthermore, I would rather say that some of you are acting like you are the 12-year olds here, rather than 911boy. I understand long-time members seeing newcomers always ask about what car to buy, et.c. however instead of posting "Veyron, CGT, you're 12 - go learn about women et.c." don't bother posting at all. You are just ruining the "Family-feel" which we are all here for. Lets be nice!
To OP,
I would say that the 911 SC is a great car. However, I would stay away from a turbocharged one, as this indicates that the car has probably been driven a lot harder than other examples, and at an output the car was not made for. Furthermore it is a 26 year old car. If the engine dies, you are looking at very large costs, something you do not want at your age.
If you want an old 911, I would recommend the 911 3.2 with 231bhp. These have the so-called G50 gearbox, which is usually sought after. Myself I have been thinking about an exact such car, however I am afraid of the running costs involved with an old 911.
Here are some other ideas:
BMW Z3
BMW Z4
BMW 330
BMW M3
Honda S2000
Subaru Impreza STI
Mitsubishi Evo
Skyline GTR R33
Perhaps an old Porsche Boxster?
Porsche 944/968
Lotus Elise
Audi S4
Et.c.
Myself, I will probably be getting a BMW Z4, as it offers everything I want from a first car. Also, it is rather new and low-mileage examples which have been well taken care of are easy to find. Insurance is okay and it offers great performance. 0-62 in 5.9 seconds, rather low maintenance costs and the best of all - a convertible top for those warm summer days (and nights with your girlfriend next to you.)
Good luck!

Thanks a lot you have been a fantastic help went Togo see the car and saw that there was no turbo it has never been run on track and has hardly been driven ithas 14,000km/s on it and has not been modified apart from new wheels and new interior.
Don't really like 944/924 Porsches I think they're ugly and I have seen lots of others and so far this 911 Is the best thanks for your help will rep when I get back on my computer

No problem! Sounds like you have found a gem! Either way, make sure to get a PPI done at an independent shop, and if you end up buying it, take very good care of it. Not often do we see 26 year old Porsches with 14000kms.
If maintained well, and properly taken care of this is a car which could actually appreciate in value, something which you probably know is quite rare for cars.

Is OP really 12? (I didn't read all the posts to be honest)
Here's what I recommend:
Honda Civic
Toyota Camry
BMW 128i/328i
Audi A4
Subaru Impreza
Anything that's under 230hp honestly and has high safety ratings. As a first car you might be crashing and scratching it a lot, so don't set your eyes on anything too fancy. You'll be inexperienced so get something safe and slow. No one wants to drive next to a 16 year old (I don't know AU driving laws) that's going 100 mph in his sports car.

The Lotus is a horrible first car. That thing is basically a street-legal go-cart. I drive fast cars but would not feel safe going 40 mph in a Lotus. Personally, I think you'd hate it since it has no options, is cramped, seats suck, and the car is so damn small and unsafe.
