Instrument clusters, new or old school?
#25
It has to fit the car. The S2000 for instance has the digital tachometer and I can't imagine that getting super dated because you cannot fit all the gauges it needed in the amount of space it had. (All necessary warning lights/fuel/watertemp/rev/speed) Compare that to all the 80s shenanigans and it definitely pales in comparison. Another aspect I think is working in the screens favor is the seamless integration. The new Bimmer 5 and 7 series have actual gauges with a fairly large screen displaying everything you might ever need.
As for the Aventador gauges looking tacky? It is so wacky and ridiculous that they made it look like a HUD out of a jet-fighter... if you were worried about the way it worked you bought the wrong car.
Some examples of what I think works well.
*note: speed is listed in the bottom right corner of the left screen... Clarkson is an obtuse, hilarious man.
