Great call, not sure why I didn't think of this sooner. I can get a pretty well equipped A3 for a couple grand more than the GTI. I've called about 10 dealers today though and the general consensus is that it will be almost impossible to find one on a lot w/ a 6 speed...

Final sales price was 27k.... U should have asked

Depending on where you live, the same could be true for a 4dr GTI.

WUT? Are we talking about the same car? His 08 yellow S4 avant? It was listed @ $37K! That car is an absolute steal at 27. That would have been the perfect car for me. Hindsight is always 20/20 so it's easy to say this, but had I been more diligent on that car, it would probably be mine.

IMO the GTi is one of the best cars on the planet. For the money nothing beats owning and living with this car everyday. You can get a fully loaded 4 door for less than 35k

Also, make sure you get the APR flash, it'll blow you away

Agreed. GTI is a fantastic car. If I can find an A3 w/ a 6 speed I will probably pull the trigger on that, but my fall back will most likely be a GTI. +1 on the APR flash. I'm no rookie to tuning/modding VW's. This was my '02 337:

Stage 3++. All work performed by me. GT28RS pushing 350+ @ 28 lbs. This car crazy well sorted with KW V3's all around and 993TT stoppers and untold amounts of other goodies.

My new A3/GTI won't be modded much. Just APR Stage 1 re-flash and these:

or these:

thanks,

pete

Thanks for the suggestion, but I should have put this in the original post. No Honda/Toyota/Mazda's. No offense if you have one, just not my cup 'o tea.

I've called another half dozen Audi dealers today and still no luck on a 6-speed A3 on the lot. They all want to spec one out for me, but then I lose my ability to deal and I am NOT paying sticker. I figure if I can find one on a lot they will be so desperate to get rid of the damn thing, they'll basically pay me to take it.

But I did find the perfect 4-door GTI. White, 6-speed, autobahn package, nav, leather, sunroof, loaded. That's my backup if I can't find the A3. My other thought was to just wait until another S4 avant 6-speed pops up, but that may take awhile .

I bet one pops up right after you pull the trigger on the A3/GTI
