You guys are giving me way too many opinions. I tried the downshifting method today and it drove me crazy, it was way too 'jerky' for me. I'm sure it would get better as I did it more often, but it still seems way rougher than just breaking with the clutch in/in neutral like Chris said. But, if it's safer and better for the car, I'm willing to put the effort in .

  1. Learn to heel toe downshift
  2. Bonus points if you double clutch, sparing the synchros from wear.
