It's not depressing at all!!! Leased a POS Pontiac G5 end of college. 3 years, 220$/month. Buying was 14,995$+tx, my thought was "*uck that, I don't want to own the next Cavalier/Sunfire, I'll sell it 2k tops in 3 years".

First year - oh this car is fine, I'm getting my money's worth.
Second year - GM giving same car away for 10k, new. LOL glad I didn't buy it. Still getting my money's worth.
Third year - LULZ, this is such a POS, so glad I'm dumping it in August and let GM deal with all the issues that are coming up. Every day of the last 8 month, I LOL'd 2x/week at how happy I was to not be the owner of the car. Good luck GM. Sooooooooooooo got my money's worth.

Financially, leasing cost me 8k over 3 years (220/month).
I couldn't have sold it for more than 5k at that point (dealers had them sitting for 5995$ with same miles), considering the original 17k price tag (15k+tx) ... that would've been 10-12k in my face.

Bottom line, think about it for a second. Not hard to make sense of things.

I won, on all levels. Except the fact that I drove a G5 for 3 years.

I think I worded my OP wrong. I made this thread to see your opinions on the topic of lease vs buy. I made the poll anonymous so no one knows how you voted. This was by no means meant to be "How much money you have" thread.

And like I said in the OP, sorry if this is a taboo topic.

 

First of all I wouldn't compare leasing in Europe with leasing in the U.S. In Europe, the bend you over and shove the payment way up your arse.....for instance, my uncle leased an ML320 in Romania for close to 2000 euros a month.....same car can be leased here for $600 -$700 a month. So, no, I would not lease in Europe either

 

Agreed. I leas.. sorry, subscribed to an XC90 years ago for not far from those monies. Still doesn't change the fact that it's no more your car than the airport Aveo during your Florida vacation though. I'm sure that works for some people, and it does obviously, but I wouldn't even find the slightest bit of joy in washing someone elses car.

So if you go out with someone elses ugly and low-maintenance/ambition chick, you "win" over the guy who married a real hottie that just requires some joory every now and then?

I realize in your case it did make a certain amount of financial sense as well - but 1) that's not how the concept is supposed to work and was an exception because somebody miscalculated, and most importantly, 2) you would never have purchased the car in the first place. You cannot save money on a car you wouldn't have bought anyway. In the same way that I didn't just save some dollars by walking past the root beer at the store - because they taste like shit and I wouldn't have bought them anyway.

think of it this way, one can rack up $220 a month in public transportation fares/ taking taxis and what do you have to show for it then?

wouldn't you rather be in a car that's sitting right where you parked it and not have to wait in the cold for a bus or a train?
