First car!

But the non supersport versions of the German sedans are sedate. The A4 that I got for my wife is nice, comfy, ok on the freeway. But not what I'd call fun. I'd trade it for a cayman or Elise in a heartbeat if I was single

Is this the kind of modified Honda you would be into?

Don't worry about it jmusser3r, haha. I appreciate you showing it to me -- it actually is quite a bit like what I'm looking for.
In regard to the bit about hatchbacks, I'm not especially concerned about having 'hauling room', as my parents have a Saab 9-3 That would work well for that if I ever needed it. As for the Mazdas, I love the Mx-5, but it seems like virtually everyone has one, and on top of that my parents (especially my mother) would hate me driving a convertible, despite how much I want one. She's far too concerned about safety.
The RX8 was the first car I seriously thought about buying, and I read into it for months. It's still one of my choices if I'm not going to go BMW or Audi -- it certainly has a more 'unique' look than most of their models, and if the rotary engine really has been improved that much it may be a viable option.
Thanks for the help so far, everyone.

I can't believe no one has suggested a VW GTI. A brand new one could be had almost within your price range, and it has a factory maintenance package included. If that's not enough car, handling, and status symbol for you at age 16, check yourself. It should treat you fairly well on insurance – better than most cars suggested. It shouldn't leave you wanting anything (as a car guy). In a few years, if you take care of it, you can trade it towards a new Audi. But if your parents are open to covering the car payment, go nuts.

I'd go for the RX-8
An audi S4 is good too, but probably more expensive.
But if you live in the USA..
Why don't you just go for a second hand Camaro, Challenger or Mustang? (the new ones)
I love those rides, if I would've lived in the USA I'd never had bought a Audi A3, I would've bought something like that, but in Europe they loooove taxes.

Since both of us are Canadians, we can relate to some of the sudden weather changes. I'm not sure of which province you're at, but a great first car could be a Subaru 2.5 RS Impreza.
Cheap, reliable, and can get you virtually anywhere of your destination choice.. since it has AWD and a great little "get up and go" motor, you'll be satisfied. Rain, snow, whatever it may be.. it will get you there. I am a huge Subaru guy, so my choice would be Subaru.
Good luck man and always feel free to ask anything that concerns you, we're all here to help! Happy car shopping to you, Sir!

You're right, but those are far from $25k cars! I'd love to drive a GT3 RS daily, but I personally wouldn't even want a 911. At least, not at this point in my life.
