Agreed. Are you set on a coupe? I'd take a pass on the Infiniti, not sure about the Z. No clue how RX-8 and reliable go together. I had an Infiniti and I hated it. You can get a nice Audi A4 with low miles that will be much better to drive, but I'm totally biased when it comes to German cars.

You may want to also consider a VW R32.

He might as well do something stupid and blow all his money on a temperamental redhead now while he's still young and can recover from it financially.

Thanks for the help so far. I'm considering a BMW 328i at the moment, though I'm still definitely keeping my options open. Do most of you think that an A4/S4 is better than either the 328i or 335i? And between the two BMWs, what would you prefer?

p.s. Parents have offered to pay insurance (and for the car, in fact) but I want to pay for at least the car on my own, and as much of the insurance as I can. Something Italian sounds good, but I'm not sure if I should start out my career as an 'at-home mechanic' with something quite that exotic.

I say buy a little cheaper, save some money for a few years. You don't need a real
nice car at your age and if you save and are smart with your money you can buy something much better a few years down the road. Sacrifice a little now to get something much better later.
