Three Dead After Plane Owned by Tesla Engineer Crashes in California
By RICHARD S. CHANG
Tesla spokesperson has confirmed to KTVU.com (via Jalopnik) that three employees have died in a small plane crash in East Palo Alto, Calif.
The story is developing, and reports are only starting to come in. According to The San Francisco Chronicle:
Ian Gregor, a spokesman for the Federal Aviation Administration, said the plane was a twin-engine Cessna 310 that had taken off from Palo Alto Airport, about a mile to the southwest, and was bound for Hawthorne Municipal Airport in Los Angeles County.
The plane was owned by Doug Bourn, a senior electrical engineer for Tesla Motors, the electric-car company said. It was not known whether Bourn was onboard.
The San Jose Mercury News adds that the plane crashed shortly after takeoff from Palo Alto Airport. Menlo Park Fire Chief Harold Schapelhouman said the plane had hit a high-tension transmission tower.
“The plane landed in the center of the street,” Mr. Schapelhouman told the Mercury News. “If not, many more individuals would have been impacted, perhaps killed. It is either very fortunate or intentional that he was able to do that.”
No injuries on the ground have been reported, but the plane damaged a house and three cars. There is no word on the identities of the deceased. There is no word on whether Elon Musk, the chief executive of Tesla, was on board.

RIP... That's very sad. It's been very foggy last few days. I am surprised planes aren't grounded.
My rule of thumb is never fly in bad weather. Even if it's a jumbo jet. Bad weather has caused some of the most catastrophic accidents ever.
