The Five Craziest Engines You Can Buy

This would be my list:
- Veyron's 8.0L W16 (as Chris said, you just can't beat it)
- Ferrari/Maserati/Alfa Romeo 4.3/4.7L V8 (if you have to ask why, you don't belong on this forum)
- Honda S2000's F20 2.0L I4 (again, Chris is spot on about this engine)
- McLaren F1 LM's 6.1L V12
- Porsche Carrera GT's 5.7L V10

Oh, I missed the part about it being new engines. You can't really buy the S2000 new anymore I don't think either....

Good plan. The Toyota 2ZZ in the Elise/Exige is a pretty cool little engine, imo.

In no particular order:
Nissan 3.8 V6. An amazingly versatile engine, Nissan offers it in every different type of car they make. With different heads/intake/exhaust and tuning it can be a low-down torque monster or a fairly high-rpm screamer.
BMW ///M V10. If for no other reason than the sound when you uncork it. It also made high-revving engines mainstream in mid-size luxury sport sedans.
Porsche 3.8L Flat 6. The final evolution of the legend. The crankcase is still based on the original design in the '94 Turbo 3.6 that was evolved into the engine that Porsche last won Le Mans with in '98 GT1.
S2000 I4. For all the reasons already mentioned. I have to say, I did not like the original version of this engine, as it was just TOO peaky. But once they bumped the displacement and worked on the VTEC tuning, it gained my respect.
MBZ AMG V12. I like this motor for the same reasons as the Nissan motor. Monster, high-revving hp in the Zonda, and just as much at home with 2 turbos bolted to it chugging along in the Maybach.

An engine thread can not be without a quad turbo, sixty valve Bugatti 3.5L V12
Or a Honda NR750 V4 ... 48 valves, 8 per cylinder.
Or a Mercedes V12. Just because it had to be detuned not to destroy the transmission.
And a Cummins I-6. Call me aredneck if you will, but lotsa smoke, more power, even more boost and yet more torque ... win.
Oh, and AM's twin supercharged V8 Vantage, of course. Because 1 supercharger clearly can't be enough.

How many of these engines are actually affordable, tuneable?
last time i heard, even a 97 boxster engine was in the 10+ grand range.
My favorite engines.
- toyota's supra 2jz-gte
- nissan rb26tt
- gm ls1
all can be had under $4,000 today, but will still kick sum serious butt with minor bolt-ons.
