Thinking about buying Caterham R500.

Hello,

Im considering buying a Caterham R500 to have as a track toy. Is there anything faster thats within the same price range?

What do you guys think?

The real question here is whether there's anything more dangerous in the same price range. To which all I can't say, b/c I don't know the price range of the R500. How much are they going for, and is there a US importer/builder?

The only other thing that comes close to comparison would be the Ariel Atom. I do absolutely love the Caterham though. If it doesn't need to be street legal and you want something a bit more stable at high speed, you could consider a Radical SR3 as well. The Radical might be another $5-10K more than the Atom though. As JC said, I have no idea how much the R500 costs.

i went through the exact same dilemma about a year ago, in the end it came down to the fact that i could build the Caterham with my son. i can tell you now, you will not be dissapointed, it isn't as refined as the cars ive owned before but ive never experienced anything like it. Although im sure this could be said of the other cars you are considering.

The Radical is faster around a track. They are street legal in the UK, but I do not believe they are street legal here in the US. The Caterham is street legal here in the US. I'm not sure how big you are, but make sure to sit in a Caterham first. Supposedly they are very small.

There was a recent Top Gear episode where they built a Caterham. It looks like much of it comes pre-assembled. Looks like it could be really fun.

Has anyone here built one? My cousin drove one in France and absolutely loved it.
