Let me start by saying this is of course an unbelievable, magnificent collection of special cars that all petrolheads shy of Jay Leno would give their right arm (and probably their right test**le !) to own
For the sake of creating some debate however, I do have a few buts
There seems very little talk of these cars actually being driven. I find it hard to imagine with 30 odd cars that some of the more modern ones have even been run in. I find it a great shame if that is the case as having cars like the 599GTO just sat there putting on zero miles is somewhat depressing
Of course the owner has earnt the right to buy and do with these cars whatever he wishes. They may be there solely as an investment. They may in fact all be driven regularly and I would gladly stand corrected
But my point is more directed at collectors in general. How often do we see supercars being sold 2, 5 or even 10 yrs old with less than a few thousand miles on the clock ?
Some of these cars are great as long distance continent crossers, some for cruising, some as track cars and some for a quick thrash down a B road. But I question how many owners of collections such as this ever get such pleasures?
One final point. Tin hat on and no disrespect meant, but contrary to many, I don't find this a particularly imaginative mix. In fact it all seems a little obvious. The gullwing, Miura, '72 RS, Shelby Cobra, DB5, E-type - it's as if someone's gone and bought a book on the most famous classics of all time and bought one of each, rather than spend the time to find what he truly loves, either to drive or to look at. The same could be said of the list of modern cars.
I truly hope the owner is not offended with my comments - they are partly here to provoke some debate and partly to find out a little more about the reasoning behind the mix and what/how/when the cars are used.

there are a lot of pictures of the owner with his cars AT the track so i would have to say you are wrong about that..
With this being your 1st post i have a feeling you are getting ready to be cyber-lynched...... good luck mate

But seriously, I wasn't trying to be rude or confrontational just for the sake of it. I had two main points: One about collectors in general rather than this specific one, which is how often do we see (or more pertinantly not see) cars like this rarely being driven and doing too few miles to even loosen up the engine
And secondly, I genuinely see little imagination beghind this collection. This is difficult to say without sounding rude but seriously, it could have been taken from any motoring magazine 'best of' list. It's like buying an art collection and making sure there's a picasso, a monet, a manet, a warhol, etc. That would be stunning, enviable, amazing......but it wouldn't show much imagination. If mini george reads my opening line, he will see it's the same as his. Doesnt mean my other points have no merit whatsoever though does it ?

i understand what you are saying, its sad to see a caged lion! Far too many collectors don't use the cars for which they were built for, But he really does drive these, go through all of the preceding pages and you will see what i mean.
As far as his collection goes wouldn't having the "best of list" be what you would aspire to have? what collector would say, "nahh i want the 2nd best cars".. There is a reason why they are on that "list" because they ARE the BEST!
Maybe not your taste? But it must be his taste because he's got them! I personally love it.
P.S. lets not forget that he didnt HAVE to take the time out to share with us this amazing collection, i am happy that he did! I am sure he didn't do it to be criticized

I would concede that I read the first few and last few pages of this thread rather than all 40 and did not see how much the owner drives them. I said in my 1st post I was prepared to stand corrected, as indeed I now humbly am.
I would also point out however that I made ultra clear in both my posts that the issue of how often the cars are driven was more a general one, an issue I find genuinely interesting, having in the same day read articles about lamborghinis covering 200,000 miles and another about some 10-15 yr old supercars being sold having covered less than 200 miles each
I therefore feel little need to apologise on that issue.
As for the other, well I stand by what I said. I don't find it that interesting (to me) as a collection. If the owner did not put it up for crticizm, what did he put it up for ? Universal praise & adulation ? Partly I'm sure he put it up because we would enjoy looking at it. I certainly did. But surely it's also ok to express an opinion ?
I've asked about the inspiration behind the mix - I'm interested to hear the answer. Maybe he wanted to amass a collection of the iconic cars of the last x yrs - I could understand the collection better if so. But with only one or two notable exceptions I see no personality or originality in the list and those are the things that always interest me the most

No point in my first post being a boring un-noticed one ! I'm ready for it ......
