Post Smartphones most returned holiday gift, iPhones / BlackBerrys notwithstanding

Though we can't say we're entirely shocked -- after all, it's not like some other handset will really satisfy when you've had your eye on that one -- a recent survey conducted by Opinion Research Corporation found that smartphones were the number one returned gadget this holiday season. Granted, the study was one of online nature, and neither Apple's iPhone nor any of RIM's BlackBerrys were included (um, why not?), but we digress. Reportedly, more than one-fifth (21-percent, to be precise) of smartphone recipients surveyed said they hustled back to the store shortly after gift giving was over and promptly returned it, and comically enough, the "inability to understand the product setup process was cited as the primary reason" that consumers did so. 'Tis a shame, really.

not everyone needs a smartphone, even though they think its "cool" to have one. The average 9-5er doesn't have much need for push email etc. And, other than the Blackberry, I cant think of a smartphone that is worth getting. (I dont know everything there is to know about smartphones, so no flaming please!)

I agree, I had a pearl for a week or two and found the suretype to be cumbersome. I can type faster on my SE610 w/ t9 than it. the only phones I have my eye on right now is the E90 (to big for everyday use/$$) TytnII (still a little $$/WinMo too buggy) and the EtenX800 (again winMo to buggy)

Cheers.

Nokia E61i is far superior than any Blackberry. The overall layout, functionality, build quality, and ease of use kicks BB in the a$$.

I had the e61 for a month or two. great phone, the only downside is the damn joystick opposed to d-pad.

oh you know it man

e61i club!!!!

Craigger,

The e61 build and joystick did suck. The dpad and sexy body of the e61i make it the best smart phone out there. I'm pretty sure I'll be getting the next generation of this phone too. I just don't see myself w/o a nice keyboard.
