They are not terribly small, I would say they are at least medium size but this is again is relevant - they are small compared to let's say a 3 row dedicated cinema room but they are not small for everyday living rooms. The pictures are not really representative of the dimensions because they were shot with an ultra wide lens in order to cover what is needed.

The above are not really theatres or dedicate cinema rooms. They are more what we call "media rooms" but I would dare say these are much better in terms of concept or quality of audio and video in regards to the common opinion that a home cinema is 6 speakers and tv.

Only the room in the last picture I would dare say is a dedicated cinema room even though the seats are not the normal cinema seats we sell. Again the picture does not really show the true dimensions of the room, and it is actually consisting of 2 pictures stitched together.

Again just to expand a bit more, except the last room, the objective was to add very good audio and video to living rooms and convert them to "media rooms" and usually we are asked to do this as hidden as possible as not the affect the aesthetics and the interior design of the rooms.

Continuing from what I wrote above these rooms are mostly a compromise in order to provide the customer awesome picture and audio without changing much in the rooms. This obviously will affect the audio quality (and video during daytime) but still the result is much above good.

For example the first room includes seven Stealth Acoustics hidden speakers (3 front, 2 surround and 2 subs) in the ceiling. First compromise is the installation of the speakers in the ceiling - not the best placement in terms of audio quality. Second is the use of hidden speakers that can be plastered over which again compromises quality - but they are completely hidden and sound comes from the ceiling. But then again quality is subjective and even for me that I am both a videophile and audiophile the result is beyond acceptable. For a normal customer (which is 95% of our customers) the result is awesome. We can go much much better than that of course in terms of av quality but we will have to change the room and affect the interior design which in most cases is not possible. The video in that room is quite good and we are using a projector that I really like the Runco LS-5 (we also use that in the dedicated room in the last picture)

Another thing we do in these rooms that makes the installation more complicated is that we usually install the equipment far away in other rooms or in dedicated closets and we provide simple control using an automation remote. That remote (and usually an ipad as a backup or for whole house control)also controls the lights, the shades, the HVAC and much more. So when the customer presses the button 'watch", the projector lift comes down, the projector starts, all the relevant equipment switches on, the audio adjusts to appropriate levels according to source and only starts when picture shows from the projector, the required blinds close, the lights dim, the HVAC adjusts appropriately according to outside temperature and so on. The setup and the infrastructure involved is quite extensive.

This is difficult because it means we have to shoot the pictures in absolute dark conditions which is not usually and pratcically possible. Actually all professional competitions e.g Cedia which is kind of the top of the industry and all magazines specifically ask us and require to photoshop the tv and projector screen image. Trust me the video is good in most of those rooms - they are also calibrated to THX standard, I am personally a THX calibrator.

This project was a finalist for 2 Cedia awards last year:
1) Best Integrated Home 36k-120k (Euro)
2) Best Media Room over 18k (Euro)

By the way this is a 2000sq.ft. apartment, not a large house...

It seems the press loves this project, it has been posted in many magazines and websites quite a few times:

Cedia Awards Brochure 2011

CEDIA - Home Technology, Professionally Installed - Why use a CEDIA Member?

Connect With CEDIA forum adds more UK dates - Inside CI

Independent retailers urged to get into custom install - Inside CI

Also as cover for Home Cinema Choice magazine and some more websites.

Some pictures from our custom user interface. We use this on wall and table wired touch panels, wireless ones, iPads, androids, e.t.c

These actually are a bit old, we are constantly working on this and try to improve the graphics and the ease of use.
