Samsung DLP Problem - Fix or Buy New

I have a 50" Samsung DLP that I've had since 2006. I am experiencing the white pixel problem that most Samsung DLP owners have experienced (i.e. DMD chip needs to be replaced). Samsung is offering the part to me for free, but will cost me $200 in labor to have it installed, and another $165 for a new bulb.

My question is should I spend the $365 dollars on this TV or should I get rid of it and purchase a new tv instead? I'd be looking for a 60" LED at this point.

Thanks guys,
ns

I would just upgrade. My Sony dlp from 06 finally went out and I was glad...got a new Samsung led (8000 series) and it's so much better in every way. The new paper thin ones with the edgeless designs are works of art mounted on the wall.

And they cost far less than what my Sony did.

I have a 55" Toshiba DLP around that's about that old. $250 for a new lamp. Replaced it twice before. I figure the next time it goes out it's a good excuse to just get a new LED considering they're not that expensive now.

My 3 yo mitsu dlp failed few year ago. Took it apart and it was very hard to figure out what is wrong. All cards are not modular and fixed on a motherboard. I would not attempt to do it unless there is a how to. I sold the broken machine for 100 on craigslist. If you have parts, these are worth $400+ towards a led.

the chip should be easy to install yourself, and you can buy a new bulb with housing on amazon for $100 (I just changed the bulb on my 56" sammy DLP and it's AMAZING how it improved the picture after 6 years on the old bulb)

That said I am now getting intermettent shut off...I taped down the heat switch and have been fine but I'm looking at a 60" Panny Plasma at costco for $1200

I had the pixelating problem (white dots all over the screen multiplying daily) on my Mitsubishi 65"DLP last year.
Replaced the light engine, flawless performance now.
It's not difficult to do, kit should come with very simple instructions.

New. The tech is much more advanced and they are cheaper than they were in 2006.
