Wireless Routers

The one currently in use seems to be failing me. Looks like this . I know its old, so its time to upgrade. I stream movies, and play games so something that is going to be able to handle that.

Any recommendations?

For home use, I have had good luck with the newer Linksys/Cisco products.

Go here to view the comparisons between their routers and get the best one for your needs. I would go no lower than the 2500 and recommend the 3200 because it has gigabit ports.

Jeff is spot on. I just bought a Apple Time Capsule. 3 months later, I am very happy with the performance and it has a TB drive built in.

I'm not sure who you have for your internet provider but if you have comcast they give you a free wireless router if you ask them for it. You pay a 1 time fee of $5 for shipping and get to use it as long as you like w/o any rental charges. I currently have one from them and stream movies all day long with it. Aside from resetting it (just unplug and plug back in in 5 mins) I think about 4 times total since I've had it (over a year) it's worked flawlessly. Something to consider

I have no idea which model router you have, so I cannot comment on your specific situation, but every free router I have seen has been shit, and I have seen a LOT of them. Much lower bandwidth, less security, less configuration options, less frequent updates, etc. Basically, you get what you pay for.
