Quote: Pretty sure current T series has a cap on the motherboard that has a nice hum when it's powered on. Just something to be aware of if you look at them, may annoy you, may not.

I personally just ordered a Dell Latitude E6410 but I haven't received it yet so no comments on how it is yet.
so you are changing from the thinkpad back to dell. the Cap you talk about makes it louder than normal? my wife would kill me.

I am unsure as to the noise mentioned.

My wife's T410 is quiet.

Anyway, IIRC you can return the Lenovo laptop within 30 days, but check the policy. I don't think you'll return it after living with it.

The picture makes the mouse pad look like levers. Do you use the red/button in the keypad to manuever around the screen? what do the levers do? I guess I'll watch some videos.

I'll keep looking for sure but like that Thinkpad change maybe

Quote: I recommend Thinkpad T series or if you need really nice graphics, the W series.

A decent spec'ed T or W is mid 2000. If you load it up to the gills it can get up to more than 4.

It is a much better designed and built unit than the Dell's, which are whitebox.
+1

IBM/Lenovo also have the nicest keyboards.

Once you get used to using the nipple, you'll never go back to anything else. With the nipple your hands do not have to leave the keyboard, ever.

I'm not gonna argue. I love nipples

LOL. That reminds me. I once used my GF's nipples like a PS3 controller.

Edit: this totally defers from what I was going to write. The previous advice about the T series is one you should seriously consider. Excellent laptops (e.g the T410s) that do what they do. Fast, light and cool (e.g. if you like surfing the Internet on your couch, these laptops tend to keep cool and won't burn your lap). Moreover, you can spec it with as many gadgets and gizmo's you deem necessary.

If you want style, go with Apple. But if you don't give a rats ass, this is an excellent laptop.

I've been a big fan of the Compaq/HP computers I've had over the years.

Quote: This is my only computer and I truly only use it for internet and pictures. Occassionally I do a word/excel document of sorts but I mainly hangout and surf the web typically doing nothing worthwhile.
This is the man's leisure computer and you all are suggesting Dell XPS and Lenovo Thinkpads? He does not game on it or use it as a hardcore business machine. I don't see why you wouldn't get a Mac. You can always run Windows in virtual if you really need it (you won't) and the MS Office 2011 works much better than previous Mac office versions. The computer really just works, no frills, fast, easy to use.

My dad who was always against Macs and worried about the switch got himself a 15" MBPro this year as his main business laptop. He has no intention of going back. Go for a 13" MBPro, you will not be disappointed.
