What to buy instead of a Blose Wave?

Help a non-audiophile out here...
I the big Bose speaker system for one of my computers. It sounds pretty damn good. I have the QC headphones, seems pretty good.
What is it that inspires disgust for Bose? I'm asking because I seriously just don't know.

Take this for example: http://www.bose.com/controller?url=/...e_48/index.jsp
For around the same price, you could get the following (or similar form many more brands like Aperion, Axiom, etc.):
http://www.miragespeakers.com/na-en/...ge-5-overview/
http://www.miragespeakers.com/na-en/...-s10-overview/
http://www.usa.denon.com/ProductDetails/4972.asp
Throw in a PS3 for Blu-Ray and streaming capabilities and Blue Jeans cables, and you have an attractive system that sounds about 10x better, with far more capabilities.
People like my parents simply won't know that, and since Bose spends more money on marketing than it does on R&D, they'd probably end up getting something like that when it came time to buy home theater.

Most of their products are over-priced, mainly the home theater systems. They mastered the art of marketing a sound that people perceive as high-end (bright highs with a very small range of punchy bass), when in fact you can get a far more accurate system for cheaper. From what others have said though, the Wave system isn't bad for the price, and I know a lot of people that love their headphones.
Take this for example: Lifestyle 48 DVD Home Theater System ? Surround Sound Systems - Bose Home Theater Systems
For around the same price, you could get the following (or similar form many more brands like Aperion, Axiom, etc.):
Nanosat® Prestige 5 Home Theater System - Overview
Prestige S10 Subwoofers - Overview
Denon USA | AVR-3310CI

Of course any satellite system will sacrifice some quality (there will be a mid-range frequency gap), but a sub like that Mirage will go far lower than a Bose sub. Bose subs only go down to 50hz (they don't publish this, of course), while most decent subs can hit down to 20Hz before the sound level drops off.

Bose is all smoke and mirrors. Not a single product they make produces a faithful reproduction of the recording, and you will often find superior products for significantly less money. Every commercial they air and ad they run are completely rooted in deception and treachery. Bose routinely sues any reviewer that writes critically about their products, which is why the only reviews you will find today on their products are paid for by Bose.
Bose should be boycotted at all costs, as the company represents amongst the very highest form of consumer trickery. To own their products is to not only commit rape on your ears and the musicians that work hard to bring us music, but it is a crime against humanity as a whole.
Bose is the Nancy Pelosi of the audio industry.

Fact, bose sells more speakers than the number 2-4th place manufactures combined! That is a butt load of speakers. Bose has found a way to "price fix" in the US and has a legal team almost as large as its marketing team to fight the "price fixing" war. Some how it is ok in the US to establish a price and if you hear of any vendor discounting from that price you can audit the invoices and stop sending any more product. They can't cut your dealer agreement, that is price fixing, but they can either not respond to your PO's or phone calls and never fulfill another order ever. It is called "price fixing" and it is illegal in the US, but not if you are bose (or Apple)! Lastly their product are preparatory and that makes it very hard to mix and match, you end up with a bose only system.
They make quality manufactured products, they just sound like ass and are way too much money.
Don't even get me started on their commercial division who sells direct to clients, so not only do I have to compete with others like myself I have to compete with a manufacturer, who do you think will offer the best price on the products and systems?
sorry rant off...
