Specing out my MacBookPro

I'm ready to pull the trigger. I want fully loaded and optioned out.

I'm torn on whether I should get 250gb @5400rpm or 300gb @4200rpm.

I prefer to have more space for music, pix, and vids.

Right now I have a G4 17"Powerbook wtih 60gb so either one will be a huge imporvement. Just curious what you're recommendations are an why.

Is there anything else I should consider?

I decided as cool as it seems I don't want a glossy screen as I have windows behind me where I use my laptop usually. I'm guessing I should get the high-res LED wide screen versus regular widescreen.

Here's how I speced it out.

MacBook Pro, 17-inch
Part Number: Z0F2
Accessory Kit
Backlit Keyboard/Mac OS - U.S. English
SuperDrive 8x (DVD±R DL/DVD±RW/CD-RW)
2.6GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
4GB 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM - 2x2GB
Apple Remote
300GB Serial ATA Drive @ 4200 rpm
MacBook Pro 17-inch Hi-Resolution LED Widescreen Display
AppleCare Protection Plan for MacBook Pro (w/or w/o Display) - Auto-enroll
Part Number: S2514Z/A

Sick...I always prefer faster drives so i'd go with the 5400 and look into this for backup and extra storage space so you can keep everything wireless.

I'm not a speed queen, I'm a size queen. Since no one else commented I went with the bigger hard drive. I can't wait. I'll probably end up getting that external terabyte drive too.

eek. unless you find yourself watching a bunch of movies on HDD all the time, it might be a little bit of a kink in performance.

think of it like getting a GT700 kit, but keeping the stock muffler.

Great choice overall though

What do you mean? How would you spec it out? I don't have cable so I do watch some shows on my laptop. I was thinking about getting appleTV so I can watch shows on my LCD TV. I may still have time to mod my order. It doesn't get shipped out March 13-18.

I believe the newer appleTV only has a 5400rpm drive, which is probably sufficient for that application. However, on a laptop or desktop, everything you do touches the drive so if you plan on playing music, editing photos, downloading videos while watching another, having 20 safari tabs loading, etc...at the same time, you'll notice the difference. Sure a 4200 is probably sufficient for most ppl, but we're not most ppl

If you're really bored at the office this article should make your head spin

That HD is going to be the suxorz. Especially if you have the extra 1Tb drive, take the faster one in the puter. 4200rpm is really slow ... If there was a 7200rpm option, I'd go for it!

I didn't see any dedicated video card ... that's mandatory as well.

I usually prefer smaller screen as they don't drain the battery as much ... but the size queen may disapprove of sub-13" screens!
