I get it if you love the looks. I've always been shocked by most Lambo drivers because I've never driven one that handled well. They stick with them I'm sure because they love the looks. They surely don't care about driving experience because the new cars just aren't up to par with their competition. I totally agree all toys should be bought with cash as you said and Gold Bullion doesn't corner worth a $h it..so cars are more fun....I'm different than most in I like the F50 looks over the F40 but have only heard horror stories about F50 ownership and I can easily turn my head to them. The only Ferrari I can't take my eyes off and would love to own someday is the 58-61 250 California's....I just can't get enough of it. It's GTO Coupe brotheren isn't bad either but I TRULY don't have the entry fee to that car game so I'll stick with my entry level stuff and Love the driving experience.

I hope your opinion changes of the driving and feel of your f40 like Kuzi mentioned and it creates a good feeling inside as well as outside to you. This will then create an ownership experience worthy of the price tag imho

I reposted this in another thread but it is worth seeing again here.

This is the essence of Ferrari IMHO.

Jamie,

I love my F40 for exactly the reasons you mentioned – even the ones that were negatives.

As I’ve mentioned on another board, the F40 has spoiled me when it comes to my exotics. I no longer have any interest in the newer ones, including my recently sold F430 Spider. I tried the 599 and 16M, but just couldn’t generate enough passion for them. Had a lot to do with the F1 I must admit. They are great cars, but too refined for my tastes. Now, if the 16M had a stick option… ;-)

I relish the rawness of the F40. No electronic nannies, no second chances on errant inputs. I’m directly connected to the car whether I want to be or not.

I also relish the idiosyncrasies. The cramped foot box (I have size 13s and have to wear narrow driving shoes to barely fit). The steering knuckle keeps hitting my foot when I turn. The build quality of a second grader… The weave of the carbon fiber (carbon kevlar?) through the thin paint. Yet, the total package is incredible.

I’m about 6’3” (when I stand up straight!) and my head also brushes the headliner. I have to move the seat forward and lean it back to be able to drive it. Don’t know what I’m going to do about a helmet when I take it on the track during this year’s Concorso in Monterey.

As with your experience, bumps that I never see in any other car get me light in 3rd mid boost. What a wake up call!

Ah, the boost. The car had better be pointed straight at boost transition. I still gulp when the thing spools up. I never, ever, anymore (!), floor it pre boost in first. Rarely in second. Too many ditches around where I live. ;-) I laugh like a little kid every time the boost comes on. It’s one of those stupid kid laughs where you know he’s having the time of his life.

My favorite part is when I spool up in second or third with an unsuspecting passenger and watch the comedy of flailing limbs as they try desperately to figure out what to grab onto. They invariably get out of the car afterwards, back up 15 feet, and just stare at the car for a few minutes. Most simply utter “wow” after the staring. They then go inside for a beer or shot.

And the look of the thing! ‘nuff said.

One may ask, if you like the F40 so much, why on earth did you also get a CGT??? Ying and Yang. Good and Evil. Questionable build quality vs over engineered precision. Yet, very similar in outrageousness and purposeful execution. And, they are both stick!!

Tim

No, it's easily fixed. And from what I have read, unless there is an issue they should last....
