IMO it is better in just about every way, and not just a little better - the GTO is on another planet. Except that the SV makes a greater visual impact, with the wing and the scissor doors.

The GTO is louder, faster, more mid range torque, far far better chassis, steering, and brakes. And the gearchange - the GTO's is just awesome, very fast and with a wonderful brutal sound on the downshift; in contrast the SV's is quite slow and shows its age.

And the GTO's cabin is much more comfortable, better visibility, but just as special a place to be. I'd expect a GTO to wipe the floor with an SV around a twisty country road or mountain pass, and be more enjoyable to drive too.

Of course it is really about how each car gels with you and the mood you're in. So I could imagine none of this matters. For me, there was always a compromise with the SV - it was not a pure unalloyed joy, there was always the stress of manoeuvering it, the cramped cabin and poor visibility. I haven't yet found the same problem with the GTO, it is just amazing in every way. All IMO of course.

Andrew, what do you think of the turn in on the GTO, the feeling of no understeer?

Sean, it is astonishing. I'm aware the car is new and I'm getting used to it, but every single corner the cars just tracks through without a hint of understeer. You can jump on the throttle early and feel the electronics helping but they also don't intrude too much so you can get it a bit out of shape.

I drive a car with downforce on track and it took a while to mentally recalibrate how much speed you can carry into a corner in that sort of car. With the GTO, it feels like the same thing, you have to reassess how much speed you can carry.

Congratulations on your GTO Andrew. I never liked the 599.... before.

BUT the GTO is a completely other thing, that car is just among the best in the world.

When did you get the LP560 Spyder? What do you think about it?

Thanks!
I got the LP560 last June, for my wife so I don't really drive it. Looks gorgeous and of course it sounds lovely. She is a keen petrolhead too, and she likes it. Black with black leather, quilted with white stitching.
