While the first red/grey is the most stunning 599 I have ever seen, this is too much for european taste.

I think it is supposed to be reminiscent of the crackle patter of celedon green glaze, used in ceramics. When fired to certain temps (cone 10 maybe?), the glaze gets that crackle pattern.
